Going, Going, De Haan!
I believe the 2017 2nd round pick would be the 32nd not the 35th that the islanders would get from the Avs in the Duchene trade you proposed. Also I think that is a lot to pay for Duchene. But, since the entire Avs team had such poor years it's hard to even judge what would be fair value.

No one takes you seriously when you are an islanders and rangers fan. It doesn't work like that.

somebodys mad an islanders fan wont trade him to the rangers</div></div>
nah he is mad that his super team got embarrassed again. he is mad that despite the fact he tells everyone that his hockey team is an original 6, deep down he know they are the worst of the original 6 (fact look it up). He is mad that every year his team trades away draft picks and young talent for win now pieces and then his team fails miserably like not even showing up for a game 6 in their own building. but most of all Alex, the the thing he is mad about is the fact despite being one of the richest franchises in the league, the rangers still only have 1 Stanley cup in the last 75 years, 1 Stanley cup when the league had more than 6 teams. I feel bad for him; it must be tough going through life rooting so hard for a team and having such high expectations only to get slapped in the face by reality that they're historically mediocre. Thats why he takes it out on the islander fans, to make up for his own teams short comings and constant failure to win a cup despite trying SOOOOOO hard to do so. really sad honestly</div></div>
haha couldnt have said it better myself

Where do I start?
Lindholm, OEL, Ristolainen, Faulk, Klingberg, Yandle, Kopitar, Pacioretty, Josi, Tavares, Giroux, Burns, and Backstrom (probably more) are already properly recognized as very good players. Definitely not underrated.
On the flipside, Soderberg, Girardi, and Lehtera are just bad, plain and simple.

The obvious trades are Tyler Seguin to Dallas, Tuukka Rask to Boston.
I think one of the most one sided trades are Fillip Forsberg to the Preds for Martin Erat and Latta is still one of those trades that is the worst since the lockout.
Patrick Sharp to Chicago from Philly was a pretty bad one as well.
Jason Spezza to Dallas for Chiasson and a handful of nothings as well.

Is this a fair Trade for Giroux and Voracek?
Yes this is just for Rantanen and the third. COL GM Sakic has listed Rantanen as untouchable. Also, split Giroux and Voracek up into two different trades to two different teams and you are likely to get a better total return.

Bailey can score, I wouldn't trade him for a 4th line center that can't. Even if there's a 2nd coming our way, I just don't think it make us any better in short or long term unless we draft an amazing player with that 2nd rounder. Also there's no way Nashville trade Ellis and a 1st for a package like that.

A Middle 6 forward (20 goal scorer) and a 4th rounder is pretty good for the negotiating rights to a player that doesn't currently play in the NHL and doesn't seem to want to play for NJD.
Remember, you aren't trading an active roster Kovalchuk, you're trading his rights. Look at what just happened with Bishop, do you think he's worth a 4th rounder? No, but to a team that can't re sign him, his rights are worth that. Nelson and a 4th is very generous.
This is all coming from a guy who thinks the Isles need to stay away from Free Agency.

theyre not trading his rights, it has to be a sign and trade, but even with that his value isnt gonna be that high for that exact reason. And if he doesnt want to go to wherever the Devils want to trade him, he can just wait the 1 year and sign anywhere he wants. Doubt the Devils would want to watch him walk for absolutely nothing.

Carolina will not pay that price for Duchene. If they trade Hanifin for Duchene it will only be Hanifin for Duchene. Defense is much more valuable and Carolina has Staal and Teravainen at the center position so Carolina has some serious leverage.

My opinion on the most underrated player for each team
This was actually very tough to do. Some picks felt like a stretch because I couldn't decide on anyone. If you don't agree with me with a certain player, let me know who is more underrated on that team because some teams I felt were littered with overrated players or no underrated players at all.
Anaheim Ducks - Andrew Cogliano - Just because his Iron Man streak is incredible
Arizona Coyotes - Peter Holland - He has consistency problems but a decent 3rd/4th line center.
Boston Bruins - Drew Stafford - He's overpaid and gets injured a lot but hes valuable when healthy.
Buffalo Sabres - So many over rated players. Only person I see here is Rasmus Ristolainen even though mostly everyone knows how good he is now.
Calgary Flames - Kris Versteeg - Had a strong season and almost didn't get a contract to begin the season
Carolina Hurricanes - Lee Stempniak - $2.5M for a 40 point scorer
Chicago Blackhawks - Niklas Hjalmarsson - He doesn't get much praise since Hawks have Seabrook and Keith. But Hjalmarsson is a big reason behind the blackhawks success
Colorado Avalanche - Couldn't decide on anyone. This team is mainly overrated players
Columbus Blue Jackets - Oliver Bjorkstrand - Seemed like he would put up points every time he got called up to the NHL
Dallas Stars - Stephen Johns - Even though he doesn't put up numbers, the games I watched he was a solid defensive D and great at moving the puck
Detroit Red Wings - Petr Mrazek - He had a horrible season but he had a terrible team in front of him. I think he will be a good starter one day.
Edmonton Oilers - Mark Letstu - Wouldn't have used him 3 weeks ago but hes been amazing in the playoffs
Florida Panthers - Nick Bjugstad - I think his injury was a big factor to why Panthers didn't make the playoffs. Having him healthy next year will really help
Los Angeles Kings - Jake Muzzin - Muzzin is a solid puck moving D. However, he gets hidden behind Doughtys big minutes
Minnesota Wild - Jared Spurgeon - He has to be the most underrated defenceman in the league. I think mostly only Wild fans know how good he is
Montreal Canadiens - Phillip Danault - He had a huge season and most people only talk about Pacioretty, Radulov, Galchenyuk, etc
Nashville Predators - Viktor Arvidsson - Pretty much same as above. Another young guy with a breakout season
New Jersey Devils - Damon Severson - He had a decent season even on NJD
New York Islanders - Anders Lee - Not sure about this one. I think most people know hes good. Hes not really underrated or overrated.
New York Rangers - JT Miller - Hes a gritty player that keeps getting better
Ottawa Senators - Tom Pyatt - One of the best cheap free agent signings in the off-season. He has worked amazing with Bouchers system in Ottawa
Philadelphia Flyers - Michael Del Zotto - Couldn't decide on anyone else over him
Pittsburgh Penguins - Jake Guentzel - Even though he plays with Crosby, the kid is a scoring machine.
San Jose Sharks - Melker Karlsson - Not sure about this pick. I think he might be good one day but hes not there yet.
St. Louis Blues - Colton Parayko - He had a great season
Tampa Bay Lightning - Vladislav Namestnikov - A good young player that most likely will be going to Vegas
Toronto Maple Leafs - Hunwick - He was horrendous with Polak at the start of the season but by the end of the season he was one of the best defensive D and puck moving D on the Leafs
Vancouver Canucks - Troy Stecher - He was on a bad team and was one of the better D on the Canucks
Washington Capitals - Burakovsky or Orlov - Both had a break out season
Winnipeg Jets - Nikolaj Ehlers - Not sure if he can be considered underrated anymore as its his 2nd strong season in the NHL

The Islanders trade seems VERY unrealistic. The Carolina trade could work from their salary cap perspective but that does not seem to be the trend (trading prospects/picks straightup for big salaries. The Toronta trade may work but I think their brass would want an NHL ready guy.
So many unanswered questions yet again this off season. Will the purge ever end?!
