After Sakic Interview

Description
Joe Sakic just had an interview point out that Compher and Jost were large parts of team (both are centers, and this to me means Duchene is gone) , Varly was a large part of our inconsistency (scapegoat - but also reassures FO faith in him - to me means potential shopping of Pickard), says we will find a quality player at 4 (he won't be trading from my take) and that we weren't going after FAs. Here is my take on how the team should look.

Draft 4th OA - Owen Tippett.
Draft 12th OA - Callan Foote

Tippett, Smallman, Caamano with San Anotino all get called up at some point in year, fight for forward roster spots.

Lindholm used as injury call up for Defense. Imagine Lindholm, Meloche, and Foote all would get call ups at some time during year, but Meloche and Foote still need to develop at San Antonio.

Would assume this is still a bottom 5 team next year, but is the start of a nice rebuild.

Let me know your opinions.

It'll probably have to be Barrie for Drouin, not johnson after his injury

if a lot of this happened maybe TBL would entertain a Zadorov for Drouin type trade if they aren't interested in the huge cap hits for Johnson/Barrie. i have to still think the best option would be getting a guy like Palat because the Drouin deal would take more...

Carolina will not pay that price for Duchene. If they trade Hanifin for Duchene it will only be Hanifin for Duchene. Defense is much more valuable and Carolina has Staal and Teravainen at the center position so Carolina has some serious leverage.

no way in h*ck the Canes trade hanifin for a rental. COL best bet is through isles unless Sakic tanks a deal and take no NHL ready defensemen from CAR

164 games give or take plus playoffs is not a rental. Shattenkirk got 1st , young player and conditional second I think? And thats for like 40 games of him.

    1) draft... at 4th it will be Miro Heiskanen or mostly Cody Glass. Tippett isn't worth a top 4 pick. And he can't go to ahl. He'd go back to Jr. 12thigh for cal Foote isn't a bad idea. I think it's a reach for him personally. But it depends if the get a defenseman or forward at 4.
    2) duchene trade: if Carolina would be interested: to get hanifin + 12th for duchene, it would be a huge trade. Think hanifin + 12th + lack for duchene + brigras + Comeau. I'm starting to think the bidding war will be between Montreal + islanders. I don't see Carolina doing it. Carolina is the best fit player wise, have the assets we want but so does Montreal..
    3) tbay trade. I do like the fits. They want a top 4 d... we want a top 6. Pieces are there, but I think tampa will want to dump more than garrison on us. And we are in no position to be losing draft picks. Barrie for Drouin garrison and blank salary dump...

Erik Johnson is too injury riddled to risk Drouin, Probably Barrie+ for Drouin.

I don't think Callan Foote would be all that great of a pick. Other than his last name, I don't think I'd be picking him in the top 20 if I was Colorado. I'd pick Nicolas Hague long before taking Foote.

The reason that Drouin is available is that Tampa is in cap trouble. Trading for Johnson just makes it worse. It's a bad trade for value for Tampa anyway. Seems like all these Duchene trades go to a team with cap space.
Two years of now a 41 point man, doesn't make Duchene all that valuable.

At 12 I would go Juuso Valimaki over Foote. At 20 and both hauge/Foote are available then I would go Foote. At 32 I'm hoping we take robin salo.

My personal hope is we get another 1st and 2nd in this draft. Let's assume it's Montreal and we get 23rd+there second 55 ish in a duchene trade... 4th go Miro Heiskanen or Cody Glass. 23rd hauge/foote/Jake Oettinger. 32 go robin salo (if 4the is not miro) strome or Jaret Anderson-Dolan (I really like Jaret) 55 nicolas Henry.

Taking Drouin & Garrison is minimum $8m in cap space for Tampa. A deal like this might be doable, but for Barrie.
