Given Killorns age this is one of, if not his last chance at getting some big money so I think Tampa has most likely accepted that reality. I expect him to be asking for 5 years and teams to be asking him for 2 years. So let's say 4x6m is my estimate on his next deal.
Thanks for the question.</div></div>
correct on both

Would be a good contract to get Colton to sign I think. I'm guessing he'd only do 1-2 yrs at that number.
What do you think Killorn is worth in the market and what do you think he'd be willing to sign for in Tampa?

Sergachev and Cirelli both get $7.2m as their base salary next season. Doesn' t that mean 7.2 will be the minimum qualyfing offer next summer?

Yeah but the cap hit is only 400k below the cap. How much are you going to accrue on a daily basis? Using the LTIR going into the season sucks no doubt but it gives us the ability to add a rental without being forced to subtract. Maybe my understanding is wrong. I'm no expert.

They apparently think they can coach him up. Maybe Barb can improve his skating. I think this is a likely contract for Palat.
This scenario doesn't have us using Seabrook's contract. I'm no expert but my understanding is if we don't use it at the start of the year it can't be used for LTIR during the season. Is that correct?

True but this scenario leaves us with no room for in season moves, right? Not sold yet on TDA. Good player and he appears to have matured some but I don't trust him.

We can sign Schenn now. Hopefully we do. Need to sign somebody else too - bottom nine grit that can score. If we want to use the Seabrook LTIR we need to be over opening night correct?
Why make that trade for a backup goalie?

Guessing two of Palat, Killorn, Johnson get moved with a 3rd line forward coming back and the team rolls into the season with basically the team above and $3-5m in cap space to work with. Maybe with a Begosian type dman added too.

Well, in this hypothetical Point would have no say in where he gets traded. Of course the chances of this happening are very close to zero. Boy would Eichel be happy though.

Really hard to those multi-player deals, especially this year. Plus Ducks are at 50 contracts right now. Would have to move somebody else out without taking a contract back.

It all depends on what ABB can show in camp. The AHL guys won't have played hockey for 10 months at that point. But you play with you got at some point given the cap issues. I think you could spend a little less on Cirelli, and maybe Sergachev too, with 2 year "covid" contracts. Cirelli 2x3.5m, Sergie 2x4m. The players have to understand the situation.
Also I don't see them going into a full season with that RHD situation. I expect they'll bring in somebody like they did with Shattenkirk.
Love the thought of bringing Hank somehow and giving him another shot at a cup.

I dunno which position is harder to get a true number one at and which one takes longer to develop? I think almost any team would trade a #1 center prospect for an established top pair dman who can run the power play. Sergie needs some more time for sure but he's 80% to becoming a #1 now.
I don't know if he's worth this trade but I think he's the guy Tampa has to move. With McDonagh signed long term it doesn't make sense for them to keep him. Tampa's looking to win now obviously.

The day Justin Abdelkader enters Amalie arena in a Lightning sweater is the day I cancel my season tickets. That baffoon would have to pay us $2m a year.
I get there's a cap savings but there's no way we're giving Stevie a player like Palat while doing him a huge favor taking a terrible contract off his 23 PLUS donating a 3 rd pick. Why not throw in a Ferrari and a harem of virgins?

UPDATED - TBL at 84M Cap
It's brutal, no way around it. I think your contracts are good (although I doubt Shatty would stick around for that). Assuming Killorn and Johnson both go then we'll have just $2.6m with only 19 roster players. If I was JBB I would have signed Coleman and Kreider plus a solid dman and just planned on quiting after the season. :)

LeBrun reported Lightning offered Point a 3 years contract 57M AAV
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NR1203</b></div><div>Because the cap is higher now than it was when Stamkos signed, not to mention he probably genuinely loves Tampa enough to have taken that discount. When looking for comparables, players don't look at pure money unless the deal was signed in the last year or two (Stamkos was 3 offseasons ago). Point is going to earn more than Kucherov and Stamkos because the cap is higher for him, plus he has newfound comparables (Matthews and Marner) to help drive his price up.</div></div>
Percentage of cap is the only way to compare contracts from different years. Stamkos outperformed both Mathews and Marner on their ELC's and his 2nd contract was 11.7% of the cap, Mathews 14.3%, Marner 13.4%. I don't blame Dubas for the Marner contract because he'd already set the bar on his own team; he had no choice and will continue to pay the price going forward. It was the Mathews contract that was unadulterated stupidity.
Regardless, the fact is these Toronto contracts are not like-kind comparables for Point. If you were usning them as comps in an appraisel for example, you would discount them significantly (taxes, team, market, life style, weather, cost of living, etc) to arrive at a value for Point's contract. Also, Point is likely only going to be given a 3yr bridge option, which is very different from a contract that includes any UFA years. At least it was before dumb f$ck Dubas got a GM job in the NHL.

Marners contract impact on Point
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>iilucassxx</b></div><div>Toronto killing the cap? They're the reason most of the NHL teams haven't folded yet, they literally make more than any other team in the league, but when they start to spend it for themselves they're a stupid organization? k</div></div>
You do realize the NHL has a hard salary cap right? The Leafs are not in the same situation as the NY Yankees.
Marner contract isn't a surprise and won't affect Point. Dubas may have made some good trades (although he hasn't actually signed any of those guys and has 1 dman signed past this year) but has indeed screwed the pooch signing his own guys. He seriously shat & played in it with that Mathews contract. He was under NO obligation to do that. I recall the big selling point when Stamkos was UFA was all that millions that could be made in Toronto doing tire commercials, etc. So why arent' Mathews and Marner taking team friendly contracts and raking in all that tire money?
