Hmm, not sure what you mean, only two players that I'm trading for would be one year rentals (Granlund and Vatanen), with most of the guys with one year left being RFAs. I do agree that it would be hard to keep the team together with so many players due for raises. And thanks! It was a lot of fun to make.

Carolina Becomes West Finland
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BurgerBoss</b></div><div>As a Finn I like the thought of full Finnish team, but the unfortunate part is that those trades don't exactly work. I'd imagine EDM BUF and NJ accepting those moves, but the rest won't.
Also Laine at $5M is a bit...optimistic, should I say.</div></div>
Yeah, I was trying to get "fair" value, but figured some of those top teams would be a no. The problem is, I was trying to add draft picks to even out the value, but a lot of those teams are close to contending and wouldn't accept. I think some are closer than others.
Also, I think $5-6 for Laine is within striking distance considering it's a bridge deal. If he lives up to it, he could be looking at $10+ on his third contract, which he isn't going to sniff right now.
Either way, thanks for replying! Maybe I'll try this again and go for some more realistic targets to fill out the lineup :)

Both guys aren't playing up to their potential but aren't exactly putrid either. Plus any team taking on Bjugstad has to worry about that injury history also. That would scare me away right there.</div></div>
In a way, it is trading for the sake of trading. Francis has not made a player for player trade in his 4 years as GM, and this roster has gotten complacent. Just getting some new blood in their for fair value could add a jolt to this roster and hopefully get us in the postseason for the first time in nearly a decade.

I'd say pass. Like the idea of Hanifin for Galchenyuk, but that would probably need to be straight up. Throwing in a 4th or later, or a minor leaguer would be the most I'd do.

Targeting Would-Be Exposed Players

Yeah, it may take more to sweeten the pot. I just think Lack has a higher ceiling at this point in his career. I don't see Ward staying in Vegas more than his 1 contract year with his son having all of his medical specialists in Raleigh.
At the end of the day, this is still my best case scenario and I really see Vegas taking whoever we don't protect out of Stempniak, McGinn, and Di Giuseppe.

Obviously they'd love to, but I figured they'd be going 4 forwards (Getz, Perry, Kesler on NMC, plus Rakell) and 4 defense men (Bieksa on NMC, Vatanen, Lindholm and Theodore/Manson). Who do you think they'll protect?

Targeting Would-Be Exposed Players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dirtface</b></div><div>Duchene isn't being exposed.
Why would Vegas take Lack over Subban or Raanta?</div></div>
Sorry I didn't make it clearer. Duchene trade isn't because he would be exposed, Canes should be targeting him anyway for the right price. I think Sakic will be forced to lower his prices and I can see this deal going down on draft day.
The 3rd round pick is an incentive to take Lack over those goalies (they may even take both with Lack). McPhee has stated that he will be looking to add picks for unwanted players. Lack didn't fit well with the Canes but I think he still has potential to be a solid back up with the right goalie coach. Throw in a 3rd and Vegas may bite.

Kapanen wouldn't get you Pesce though. Proven top-4 D for a prospect is not a trade the Canes are in a position to make.

No need to bring back Dahlbeck AND Tennyson. And I think Slavin is untouchable at this point. I can see Rask as a centerpiece of this trade if we don't give up a roster defenseman (Bean or Fleury), but this is just too much for Duchene. Also, I watch the Avs a lot, and we have no need for Beauchemin. Declining fast.

As a Canes fan living in Denver, I agree with you. I feel like a trade like this is much more likely if Sakic gets fired. New GM would want to build from ground up and 2 low-risk D prospects and a top 10 pick may just be the way they want to go.

Still trying to find Duchene trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>Gee, you compare Bean to Karlsson and you still trade him? Duchene only has two years left in his contract, why would the Canes give up some futures for him. And you gotta ask...what has Duchene really done with a out of playoff team like the Avs?,.... they're still an out of playoffs team. Surely the Canes can spend 6m better than Duchene without giving up assets.
As a CapFriendly fan. Why are 75% of the Duchene trades made to the Canes? Can't the other 29 teams share in the Duchene trade?</div></div>
While I think Bean can be great, he's made expendable due to the defensive depth already on the roster. With this trade, we keep Fleury and still have Faulk/Slavin/Pesce/Hanifin. Add a veteran 5-6 guy and thats a solid D corps, Bean just isn't vital to the organization. As for your Duchene to Canes comment, it just makes the most sense considering the Canes seemingly infinite cap room and Colorado's need for young defenders. Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn't bet against the Canes having Duchene on their opening night roster.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>adamkaz23</b></div><div>Carolina makes the most sense for a Duchene trade because of their surplus of young D and the Canes need for a #1 Center. So who's it gonna be Canes fans??? Slavin? Hanifin? Faulk? Pesce? Please tell me.</div></div>
As a Canes fan, I'd say right now Slavin is untouchable, and Pesce is close to it. Hanifin is very unlikely, so that leaves us with Faulk. I still doubt that we would trade him in a Duchene deal unless it was straight up (which the Avs wouldn't go for).
I think the most likely scenario of a Duchene to Carolina trade would be if Sakic gets fired and the new GM goes for a full rebuild. There he could get two of Bean, Fleury, and McKeown alongside a combo of our plethora of 2nd and 3rd rounders, with maybe Bigras coming Carolina's way to even the numbers (I don't know a ton about him and how Avs fans value him).

LOL they regularly scratch Hanifin, but say no? They've already balked at Slavin, so I went a different route. But one thing is crystal clear after watching them twice in a short span: they need offense and desperately need a player like Duchene.</div></div>
