Yikes! That's not good news, honestly I do worry about the long term viability of the team in Winnipeg, just not a wealthy city with changing demographics and there's a ton of factors working against them plus they seem to work against themselves as an organization both on and off the ice.

Let’s just hope they are either very good, or very bad.
I think everyone around the league can see how this season likely plays out. Jets will start off hot, they’ll start to tail off around mid December, team will be a bubble playoff team come to e TDL. Chevy decides to add veteran pieces, and doesn’t move Helly or Scheif. Jets make the playoffs as a wildcard team and lose in 5 again. We watch two huge free agents walk in the summer for nothing.</div></div>
The worst possible outcome but they really need playoff revenue soooo... 🤷♂️
Wonder how their season ticket sales drive is going, I'm hearing a lot of advertising for game pack options.

Have you read Weibe's most recent mailbag article?
He mentioned that Perfetti had a back issue which wouldn't bode well for him playing center, will be good if they give him a chance down the middle but he looks like a winger to me.

He's a better player than Granlund no doubt. And if some sort of circumstances changed with Pittsburgh's right defense, I think he would fit Sullivan's system very well. Just with the current roster though, I don't see how it would work.

Pionk might be more of a liability to PIT than Granlund. More expensive, same length, and a NTC. At least Granlund might play a depth forward role they need. Pionk will be the 3 or 4RD with Letang, Petry, and Rutta. If Rutta were dealt in another deal then I could potentially see it.

Correct, he will get Sorokin type money. I would also imagine no longer than 5 years.

Key is Vegas signed almost all the players they traded for long-term. They didn't make a move to let someone walk after one year.

Yah they have a little over $4M in cap space rn with Kevin Bahl still to sign.
Next summer Dawson Mercer is due. Even at a bridge deal and resigning players for less they don't have the money to offer him anything near what he wants.
Basically, they would have to give up assets, and likely more than you mentioned just to have him for one year and then try and sign and trade him else where.

the jets don’t have there own second round pick so if they did OS him it would have to be in the 4.2-6.4 range, i think that if it’s only 1 year you go high to make it as difficult as possible for nyr to match

Debrincat extended barely got a 1st.
I’d be very happy with this return for Helly + Melo. Krebs and Ostlund are worth more than a 1st.
I’d prefer to move Helly to NJ for a package built around Holtz + Vanecek + 24 1st though.</div></div>
I don't see NJ parting with Holtz.

That being said, the smart move would be to move him asap for as much as possible. Try and swing some sort of futures deal to a contender.
Jets can then use those futures to trade for a goalie to replace helly or keep them and use them.</div></div>
More value in collecting assets, not saddling oneself with an albatross contract and clearing the way for one of their goalie prospects.
I'm just not a Helle believer, if he couldn't get on a hot streak in his prime with this recent core which was considered fairly good what makes us think he'll get on a good run when he's older and out of his prime with this next core which likely won't be as good or will at least take some time to develop?
I just don't see it happening, imo its best to move on and let him be some other teams headache.

Sway for Scheifele
I think most GMs would be wary of overvaluing Swayman. He looks the real deal so far but we've often seen goalies come apart after a couple of good years, never to really find that form again, and he was behind a pretty dominant team. That said, this is a pretty good return for Winnipeg for Schiefele imo. I'd pass if I were the Bruins based on Schiefele's rep however.

Moving a blake wheeler or a Ryan Johanson isn't the same as 1 year of a good but injury prone goalie when no one really better is available beyond Halleybuck.

Don't disagree, Idk... like I don't think they're bad enough to really bottom out so what do you do to get another center to replace Scheifele?
I think we won't be seeing much of Lucius or Lambert next season so wouldn't count on them slotting into a top 6 center role on the Jets for the 23-24 season.
If they're not rebuilding then what do you do to replace both of your top two centers.

No complaints there! I just figured they'd prefer Dillon since he only has 1 year and would be easier to move with no trade protection.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Birtle34</b></div><div>Don’t mind the idea of it, but done as a bargain, rather than full price, that’s a ton of term to eat if it goes bad. Lots of change over up front, so possibly some moves to rebuild the blueline, got to make room or get rid of heinola, also time to decide on Dillon and demelo on contract years, rfa samberg could probably return something decent, so not opposed to trading or a longterm contract. Pionk I would like to see given a partner that works and possibly shined up for a nice deal at the deadline or extended. Morrissey is morrissey probably just left alone, but with his size probably nice to add a little size around him. Stanley can be added into a deal, he needs a change of scenery.</div></div>
That is the bargain price. I'm not a huge Sanheim fan so you will get no argument from me that the contract isn't the greatest. The aav is fine, and will look good in a few years. The term is about three years too long though. Either way, if he were signed for 4 or 5 years he would easily go for a first and high level prospect based on what 2nd pairing D go for.
The Flyers can also take back some salary with the deal as currently constructed. Nothing long term though without any additional assets coming back. We could take back Dillon or Wheeler for example.
