Philadelphia Flyers signed Ivan Fedotov (2 Years / $3,275,000 AAV)
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>LuckyMoneyPuck</b></div><div>listen to you.
A team should risk 7 million to find a back up goalie...... The F kind of piss poor management is that?
That's how a GM gets fired. stupid decisions like that.
It be one thing if you were over here talking about, yeah we risked 3.5x2 for a guy who might be a 40 goal scorer or something.
But you over here going on about backup goalie.</div></div>
Look at the flyers history with goalies. We need goalies lmao. It is a legit OVERPAY. it is! But because we aren't signing Carter Hart and Ersson is on a 1.45 mil contract. I am fine with paying him to see if he can be a viable backup. We arent going to be competing for the next 2 years anyway. Might as well find out if he can play in the NHL. Big goalie, has legit potential. Flyers see an upside on the Fedotov, they dont need the cap for 2 years anyway. Roll the dice and see if he can play in the NHL. Its that or leave him in russia and dont find out and save 3.25 mil to do what?
Fedotov was making about 3 mil in the KHL. So it was either pay about the same or leave. Flyers decided to pay

if this was "the only way" to get him to play for the flyers maybe you should have just told him to pound salt because you just got screwed.

Thank for the clarification! I was wondering why such a high AAV.

Big brain of briere to surround the flyers with some russians when Michkov comes over next season. When they somehow get him a year earlier

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>vmark</b></div><div>yea that was always going to be the case for them this year. it's like a bunch of teams that are good this year, <strong>Toronto</strong>, Florida, Carolina, Winnipeg, Tampa, they all have players to sign and it's unclear who will get signed and who will be let walk.
Also how they play in the playoffs is a big factor in how much they might cost in the offseason.
There will, most likely, be a decent amount of good FAs in this years class.
What will the cap look like though, isn't is supposed to go up?
Factors!</div></div>
The only team I'll disagree with you here... They have 20+ mill in cap space next year, so they should look better... Along with the JT contract expiring the year after, they'll have plenty of cap space for the next couple of years...

(NJD/TBL) - Coleman for Foote and 2020 1st round pick
This is a great trade for TBL. Their cap next year is toast and they are going to lose half their D. They need to save as much space as possible. Coleman is playing like a 4mil + player that Tampa just took control of through next year at basically a 50% + discount.

(NJD/TBL) - Coleman for Foote and 2020 1st round pick
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>I don't think anyone would argue Coleman isn't a good player. Maybe even exactly the type of player TB needs right now. I just don't understand how you can justify this price. Frankly its unjustifiable. If this was the price for Coleman, they should have found the next closest thing and paid probably less than half as much while still getting a decent enough player to fill the void they wanted Coleman to fill.
I hear a lot of "Well If Tampa wins, it'll be a good trade". I disagree. Not only was the pick they gave, NOT even Tampa's 1st, I expect Coleman will have play an integral part in TB winning the cup for it to be justified. Like almost winning the Conn Smyth type of involvement. Then, I think you can say that it was a good trade for TB....... When there are that many personal conditions needed to be justified, maybe you should rethink your strategy.</div></div>
I think you would be hard-pressed to find a forward who plays like Blake Coleman and comes at an AAV below 2M that is also signed for next season. Sean Kuraly, Michael Raffl, Marcus Sorensen Jordan Weal, Luke Glendening, etc. don't come close to the same skillset that Coleman has.
Nolan Foote obviously has potential, but he is still a very unknown commodity at this point in his development. The 1st round pick is the cost of running a team trying to make it out of the Eastern Conference. These teams are going to be ruthless to play against, and having the ability to roll your lines that can play strong two-way play is worth the price of Foote and the 1st.
I agree with you that the "if Tampa wins, it will be a good trade...". The trade is already good for Tampa. They get a forward who fits right in with their system, has the ability to produce, plays with non-reckless energy, aggressive, but smart forechecker, and defensively minded center who is on a cheap contract. Maybe they don't win the Stanley Cup this year, but what they gave up is still worth trying to get there.

1st of all NJD did great here and TB paid a lot for Coleman
But this has the same kind of vibe when I tried defending the Tanev signing and saying how great of a player he was??
If Im a TB fan - Im thinking who cares, this is kind of player u need on a Cup team.

I figured Hanifin would want to be in the East, but how long will BOS & TBL remain competitive. NJD, NYR & FLA would have been interesting destinations for him too, but VEG paid a decent price to acquire him, are very competitive and have aging Defensemen/Martinez to replace, so this just makes sense
As for the $$$, I wanted him extended in CGY for $6.25-6.75mil/yr last year, but he played well in his contract year and was apparently offered $7.5mil/yr by Conroy… $7.35 seems reasonable given his age and the fact he’s not an Elite $9-10mil/yr+ Player like Josi and he’ll definitely make more in Vegas after taxes than he would have in CGY

The contract is objectively fair value but is going to age very poorly as soon as next year. Sephenson is gone, Martinez is gone, Marchessault, Mantha is gone. What happens if Lehner is cleared to play?
I think they'll be fine, but what if Eichel, Hertl, and Stone struggle with more injuries as they all have throughout their career? Not to mention Karlsson is 31, McNabb is 33 and Petro is 34 already.
This is literally what happened with the Sharks in 19-20. They let Pavelski, Donskoi, Nyquist walk so they could get Kane and Karlsson signed, then Karlsson, Hertl, and Couture were out with injuries for a huge portion of that year and they were 3rd worst in the league.

Not really as they have prospects who can fill in spots
Really all they need to do is extend Dorofeyev and Korczak and neither will get a big extension
Just have to trade Whitecloud and they have a 21 man team
