I was going to like actually criticize this post but I see you're a Tampa fan and have no idea what is going on with the caps.

Protas, 2nd for Dermott
Washington declines. Washington declines for even one of Protas or the 2nd. Washington has multiple "Dermott" level D in the pipe.
Dermott is young, but nothing special. The Capitals counter offer a 4th... maybe a 3rd if you include Bracco.

Caps 2020-2021- 1st attempt
There's nothing I really disagree with here. My one comment would be that if we think Alexeyev is NHL ready, then he should be in the lineup. That means someone has to leave out of the current defensive corps. The biggest question is if Alexeyev or Fehervary can play on the right side.

Gersich
I don't really like the idea of trading out Kempny, who's essentially the backbone of the defensive corps. I'm not sold on Djoos on the top pairing, mainly because I don't know if last season's performance for him was an aberration and he's better than he showed last season. Also, I think Carlson plays better with a more steady, stay at home partner.

Bringing MoJo back to town
I like Johannson as a 3rd liner (like in Boston) and coming back to the Caps power play. I would not sign him for 5 million though. Maybe 4 million or less if that's possible. Pretty nice top 9 though.

Off-season tweaks
I really think you're overpaying Vrana here. I know he won't get a traditional "bridge deal" but he would take $4.0 x 4 years. He's way young still and has room to grow.

CAPS
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>washcaps7019</b></div><div>I really like what you have done. Keeping the guys we need, adding assets, etc. the only things I don't agree with are Vrana's contract, not keeping connolly and Burakovsky trade.
when it comes to v's contract, i think it is way too much. yes, he is good, and will get better. But as of now o think a 2-3 year bridge deal would be smarter. Plus you can use that 2 million to see if Connolly will stay for less.
as for the burakovsky trade, i am not totally against it, but i think it will come down to how he preforms the rest of the year and in the playoffs. So I am not totally against trading him, but if it is between trading Burkie, but keeping dowd and haglien, or keeping bura but losing haglien and dowd. I would go with the latter.</div></div>
I personally don't mind the Vrana deal. If he does get better, you get a fringe 1st liner for a pretty good price, and he could take over the spot on the top line if Ovechkin decides that he wants to go back to Russia for a year to play in the Olympics. If you want to free up cap space for Connolly, the best place to do that is by trading Niskanen.

Just some UFA depth.
There is no chance Vrana is playing in Hershey next year, the guy was already driving play at the NHL level in top 9 and top 6 roles. He pretty much already cemented himself as the 2nd line LW playing with Backstrom. There is absolutely ZERO reason to play him in Hershey

That’s a terrible trade for Washington. Burakovsky is great. You get rid of Niskanen and search for a shut down defenseman for your 3rd line... or you just let Bowey play.

Why do people keep sending Bura away?! He's a young top 6 forward and you have the room to keep him!
