Description

Generally try to keep our 2018-19 pieces, but bow to cap constraints as necessary.
Have to buyout Cally and trade JT Miller. Can't afford to re-sign Stralman, also not re-signing Coburn or Girardi.
Promote Verhaeghe and Conacher to fill forward slots from Miller and Cally.
Promote Foote and Rutta, and sign a cheap spare part D, to replace Girardi, Coburn and Strals.
Not quite as stacked as this year's team, but still very much a contender (favorite?), especially if one or both of Verhaeghe (or another one of our Syr forwards) and Foote are really ready to contribute.

Johnson has a full NTC through 2021. Much easier to free up cap space by moving Miller, before Miller's modified NTC kicks in this summer.

How is Rutta worth 2million? If anything he is the cheap spare part D. Strals would sign as a discount to not have to move his family again. The guy knows he's doesnt need to do the heavy minutes anymore.

Stralman's at $4.5m this year. If you think we can get him to re-sign for say, $2.5m, then we could fit him in instead of Rutta. Hard to say if he would go for that, and I wanted to see what the roster would look like based on numbers I'm pretty confident we can pull off, with no need to hope for guys giving us discounts.

That said, as much as I like Stralman, he's hit this stage of his career where is production is generally declining and he's often injured. I don't think having him on our 3rd pair really changes our 2019-2020 outlook very much vs Rutta, or whoever else we can find.
