OTT declines, Melnyk's cheap guy. He'll get a player that'll be just put to injury reserve.

TB laughs. Shatty's no good anymore, absolutely not worth moving their best RHD prospect and a 1st to get rid of one year of Callahan.

EDM declines since they can't afford to take Namestnikov if NYR doesn't take one of their bad contracts.

COL accepts I guess...

OTT still has to meet the cap floor...means they'll take on bad contracts if a player with potential is headed their way.

Shatty's second half of the season was much better on both ends, and for two years at nearly 50% retained why wouldn't they take a chance on an area they need to improve (Right Side Defense)? Then they also get Pionk's RFA rights and can likely lock him in on a cheap deal.

It's true that they need right side d-men, but they need players that are more defense oriented. Hedman is their only "multi-tasking" D, he's great both offensively and defensively. McDonagh is their only defense oriented D, but pretty much all other d-men are offensive. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't both Shatty and Pionk quite offensive? If they are, it's not worth.

OTT will meet the cap floor, that's not going to be an issue. They'll get players that are pretty much done with their career's (Horton, Zetterberg, Franzen, Hossa) etc. This way they reach the cap floor and don't have to use overpaid players on the ice. They're using young force.

Ottawa hits the cap floor re-signing their own RFAs and Nilsson. If not Hossa would be the way to go. Arz easily hits the floor.

Melnyk is a cheap guy, which is why I could see them sending Gaborik back to NY in exchange for Smith and some B prospect. That way he gets a contract that will actually play in games AND save $1.1 million total
