The Leafs just might have to do this type of trade to get cap relief. Garland? Another surf, but he did show potential law year.

Yeah....naaaaah. I don't like Nylander's sense of entitlement any more than you probably do, but I'm not any idiot. His offensive acumen is worth more than Garland and a 3rd, considerably more.

A guy who was drafted 8th overall, had back to back 61 point seasons before turning 22 and you want to give him away for way under market value to make it easier to pay for Marleau for 1 year and overpay Kapanen and Johnsson. This is the essence of short term thinking. Nylander will be a very big part of this core and it's all doable once you get past Marleau. Just have patience, be okay with a lateral step and see what happens. What if Rosen, or Borgman or Sandin or Rassanen or someone surprises and the defence is both cheap and much better than we thought? What if we can move Kapanen for an ELC player that looks really good? There are other ways to make this work, you don't need to blind yourself and only look at a bad half season from Nylander and make him a scapegoat.

There is more to hockey than scoring points. That said I agree with you far more than I agree with palhal. *IF* you are going to deal Nylander it ain't going to be for peanuts.
