Description
Main Goal, to shed Salary and Fit the team under the cap without making them objectively worse.

Kap and Johnsson are signed on 2-3 year bridge deals. Many comparisons but I think they fall in 5-6M total between em.

Marner, based on comparables and Athletic Articles, 4-7 years at 11% of the cap, which is around 9.125M

I have extra cap space for when Hyman and Dermott come back. They should fit based on gaining cap space from LTIR.

Trades
Connor Brown was a useful player, but Babs is not using him properly. Rumors have been around for a while for going to Edmonton. Send him for some type of Picks package or B-AHL Prospects.

Nikita Ziatsev also must go before July 1st. NYI have lots of Capspace, but more importantly Lou, who signed Ziatsev to that stupid contract. Now Ziatsev is not useless, he is good, Lou thought so. So I assume he would want him back. Its more Ziatsevs term that hurts more than the caphit. But both arent ideal. He needs to go.

I thought Miller would be more easier to aquire since Vegas isnt playing him and needs to shed cap over another D like Brett Pesce's. It seems like a bit much from a Leafs perspective, but that probably means its sort of fair?

Marleau is not going anywhere. He is loved by the Leafs, he has 4 kids who he wont want to uproot again and most importantly has a full NMC which I am 98% sure he wont waive. So he stays.

Also
Hainsey is not back. I would not mind him as a 5/6 and PK specialist. However, I cannot trust Babs to play him on the top pair again, so Dubas wont sign it to save Babcock from himself.

  1. Zaitsev, Nikita
  2. 2019 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Ziatsev is not a useless Defencemen. He can be effective in the right role. He is a PKer and he can eat minutes which is what All good Old school hockey men like. Not to mention Lou signed him to this deal. He took Martin. I think he would take Ziatsev too.
2.
TOR
  1. Miller, Colin
Additional Details:
Colin Miller is a healthy scratch, but is not a bad defencemen. Right now Vegas has admitted they need to shed cap.
VGK
  1. Korshkov, Yegor
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Vegas gets a former 2nd round pick and another 2nd. Could maybe do an upgrade that if The leafs make it to the conference Final, they get another pick.

I would love to see marner sign at the figure. But seems like the old man and his agent are getting a little greedy. Would he really sign an offer sheet for an extra 500k, to play with a substantially worse team?

i really like colin miller. I think the reason he isnt playing is because of the coach though. He was good in boston, solid in vegas but they fell out of love with him. They didnt like tatar either and he has done so well in montreal

Holl and Maricin in the starting six, think you have proved the Leaf need Zaitev. Agree with playing assessment of Zaitsev but he is a difficult trade as teams would prefer long term cap flexibility.

Leafs have put them themselves in this position by signing tavares. Marner will not sign that contract, someone will have not problem sending him a 5yr $10.5 contract where compensation is only two 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

And what comparables are you using? 2009? Unfortunately for the leafs Marner is showing he is equal to Matthews so why does he just get paid 2.5 less per year?

I think the thing that bugs me the most is do you think Marner is worth 2-3 million dollars MORE than Nikita Kucherov? I get Tampa has no sales tax which is why Kuch is lower than expected but still. I think if I was Dumbas 9.5 would be as high as I would want to go.
