Description
4 players to sign/promote with just 6m in cap space. Wasting 3m on Marleau, doesn't seem like good selling point to the Kings players or fans, Leafs fans better look elsewhere.

Agreed, but also...the latest rumors are that the ONLY team he's willing to be traded to is SJS to be closer to his family. Yikes if that's true! He'll get bought out for sure. Besides TBL...SJS are the last team that can take Marleau.

The trade I heard that was discussed was Carter for Marleau and a sweetener going to TO since Carter has 2 more years on his deal. He would then bought out by TO saving TO over 3 million in cap space and LA 2 years of Carter.

Kings have plenty of cap space if they wanted to take on Marleau's contract. They're not going to be pursuing anyone via free agency this year, and the only seven-figure contracts they have to sign are Kempe and Iafallo who will get less than $5M combined.

That being said, it sounds like they're not going to because LA and Toronto talked and Dubas wasn't willing to give up a sweetener sweet enough to entice the Kings to help Toronto out.

As a Leaf fan, I hope you're right about LA being option for Marleau. There aren't many trade options for the Leafs, so the Kings and the few other teams that might be trade partners have the leverage when asking for a sweetener.
Same as a potential Zaitsev trade. Might be few takers for him. due to his term more than his salary I would think. Leafs shouldn't expect any return and just get cap space would be welcome.
