Description
Gardiner would be a nice option, but assuming the term is too long here's another way to go for some puck moving LD help. Brodie often plays right side in Calgary, but is left-handed and i'm assuming he could go back to his natural side and still produce, playing along with Weber on the right

Flames have a ton of good defenders, but need some cap space to sign RFA forwards especially Tkachuk and Bennett. Brodie is UFA next summer, time to move him is likely now

To estimate trade value, I looked at Jake Muzzin to Leafs a few months ago. Muzzin contract still had 1.5 years at time of trade. Leafs gave up late 1st (22nd overall), Grundstrom (21 year old likely 3-4th liner ceiling), and Sean Durzi (defense prospect).

Brodie and Muzzin about equal offensively, but Muzzin is better defensively and $0.6M cheaper AAV.

Since there is some risk whether Habs could re-sign Brodie before he goes UFA, there's a conditional draft pick built in.

Obsurd. 2nd rounder is enough and there's no conditions if he resigns. CGY needs the cap space more than we need Brodie.

Flames almost traded Brodie for Kadri. They’ll be aiming higher than that return. To dump cap they’ll move Frolik

Frolik would be a good option for the right price for CHI

Personally i'd be interested to see what CGY would offer for a team to take Neal .
i'd offer up Byron for Neal and either a Bennet or Jankowski , 1st and a 3rd .

you'd still be giving up less then WPG did as they paid alot to move out 1 year term on Mason .
5.75m cap gone over 4 years helps you guys out a lot and MTL is just trying to get paid .(likely retain half on Neal and move him out to a team like NSH for a high cap player coming off a so /so year like Turris or Bonino . (and a pick if its Bonino )

I like when people adds explanation to their trade proposal and just not shoot out of nowhere a questionable trade. The comparison might not be good because Muzin was on a 2 years contract and the fact that it was close to the deadline might have resulted in a better return for LA (TOR were in urgency mode). However, the value seem fine but not for the conditional 1st. Habs don't want a top 4 LD only for a year : they're not contender and it would cost too much to resign him.

I also think that Bergevin won't change his D anymore. With Reilly resigned, I don't see him moved : he seems to be in Habs plan after all. If there's any move left, it's probably a RW that can replace the toughness of Deslauriers (I thought about Reeves for a 5th) or a winger with some offensive potential (I thought about Perreault for a 4th). It could also be Frolik but it might cost more because he's not a cap casulty like Perreault : he has only 1 year left. I just hope the Habs use their cap space
