Never mind that the amount of assets pissed away in dumping all of those contracts is going to really hurt a prospect pool that isnt very strong to begin with.

Mariner is not worth that cap hit, and I would rather have the four firsts and build the team properly. Even if it means McDavid walking, there will be a kings ransom of assets coming back to offset losing him AND you'll still be able to have prospects.

Kinda foolish for a bottom feeder to trade away draft picks for one player. Doubt if the Oiler can dump those cap hits just for picks. Other teams have cap issues and don't want the expensive Oiler non performers.
