I know goalie Tretiak has this stellar reputation in Canada and North American. But as a observer of the the 1972 Summit series (I was 18 years old), Tretiak was responsible for the Soviets losing those last three games. How the NHL and Canadians would have rewritten history is the Soviets had won the series.

Don Cherry believes that Paul Henderson deserves to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame more than Tretiak, since Tretiak was the one who didn't come through for the Russians in that series. However, the Canadians heavily outplayed the Russians for large portions of that series and Tretiak kept them alive making save after save.
