Agree that expectation may have been on the high side for a player a team can resign for free as a UFA in the summer.

I suspect Dubas is kind of worried about his own job security and reached the conclusion that it is better to roll the dice and keep Barrie and hope Leafs turn around their season and make the playoffs. If Leafs miss the playoffs, someone is going to pay for this season and it could be Dubas.
