If I'm STL I'm not moving Dunn to make room for Petro. It's not crazy to think that the next 7 years of Dunn will be more valuable than the next 7 years of Pietrangelo. I think the approach for STL should be to try and keep Petro for < 8 yrs and < 9m; If that works, then bridge Dunn and figure out a way to move Allen, Gunnarsson, and Steen/Bozak, maybe Perron if you have to. If that doesn't work out, give Dunn the long-term contract and move on.

Good way to think about it. I think the next 3-5 years, Petro will be more valuable but then the big question in this deal, and any deal with a player extending into their late 30s, is how will they drop off? Petro doesn't play a very physical game, nor is he a tremendous skater. These two traits give me optimism that he can still be an effective player late into his 30s.
