Description
This is probably frowned upon, but I'm sending this back out one more time because it got zero comments the first time around. If you think it's **** and want to say so, no worries, I just hate getting no feedback because then I don't know if the things are decent and could be incorporated into other posts in the future.

I know that there is doubt as to whether teams will be able to acquire contracts for the purpose of CBO, but if they can this might be a decent option.

Leafs get Stepan to buyout allowing ARI to save money and use their own CBO on somebody else. They have an under the radar bad cap situation. The second is thrown in for taking Stepan and then there is a Johnsson/Lyubushkin swap.

Assuming Carolina CBO's Staal, the Leafs take a run at him. I don't know whether they could get him that cheap, but I like him as a 3C even at that age.

The usual Weegar trade just without Wallmark because the Leafs got Staal. Tried to make the condition reasonable.

Stepan is only owed 5M a CBO o him would only owe him 3.3M across 2 years. I dont think that price is an issue for Arizona

It's not so much about the money as the cap. This would allow them to clear Stepan's hit as well as somebody else's (assuming trade and CBO's are allowed).

The objection I can see to the Florida trade is that the Panthers are rumored to be interested in cutting cap; this would probably increase it. It seems right on value, though, and certainly something the Leafs should do.

I have seen a lot about that Florida rumor, but to my knowledge, it was more a matter of actual cash rather than cap hit (I could definitely be wrong on that though). Someone pointed out in another ACGM that Kerfoot gets paid a bonus this summer so his actual money owed isn't all that high, so I'd imagine the difference in money in this deal would be marginal. Plus with the CBO as an option in this scenario, they clear cap/cash there as well. You're not wrong about this deal likely increasing Florida's hit but hopefully it wouldn't be enough to be an issue.
