Description
VAN Trade:
Detroit takes on Loui Eriksson's contract to get the Canucks out of a serious mess. This will save money for them to retain pending UFA's such as Toffoli, Tanev, Markstrom, as well as save room to resign Pettersson and Hughes next year. Detroit adds another mid/late 1st round pick in 2021 or 2022, and a 4th round pick in this year's draft.

Vancouver gives up a 1st round pick in this trade but that will likely be the cost to get rid of Eriksson's contract. They also acquire Adam Erne, who could be a cheap depth forward if the Canucks want to sign him.

NYI Trade:
Detroit acquires a potential bottom-pair D in Hickey. Hickey can provide some insurance in case of injuries to other players. If Hickey is unable to make the roster, the Red Wings can bury him in the minors. To take on his contract, the Red Wings receive a 3rd round pick.

The Islanders manage to clear $2 500 000 in cap space. Hickey no longer has a role on the Islanders and gets a fresh start with a different team. The Islanders will only move down 2 rounds if Hickey has any role on the Red Wings next season.

I'm not sure if the Islanders would be willing to do this but I saw similar trades in some Islanders Armchair GM's so I decided to do it.

STL Trade:
The Red Wings would acquire a third 2021 1st round pick in return for taking on Steen's contract. Steen would be bought out so he could resign with the Blues at a cheaper cap hit.

The Blues would get to keep Steen at a much cheaper cost and potentially be able to resign Pietrangelo and Dunn.

The Blues might prefer to keep their first round pick and buy out Steen on their own. If taking on Steen's contract isn't worth a 1st, maybe Detroit could get the Blues 2022 2nd round pick instead.

Fair enough. I only added the Hickey trade because I saw it in some Islanders Armchair GM's and it would make sense for the Red Wings if the Islanders would be willing to do it.

I've said this a bunch recently, but the Canucks can afford to absorb Eriksson for one more year. We'll move him next year if we have to when he's on an expiring deal and it doesn't cost a 1st.

A trade that I discussed earlier was:

DiPietro + 2nd + Eriksson for a 5th

Detroit get's a good goalie prospect which they need.

Would be cool if we (STL) could downgrade the pick slightly and send Allen your way too. Then you don't have to sign Talbot. Allen has a slightly bigger hit, but for only one more year, so less overall money committed.
mokumboi liked this.
