Description
How did Panarin go undrafted ? and what is the difference from cash up front to regular pay ?

Is there a different tax write off, easier to pay off his agent, why is Panarin getting all his money in signing bonus.
What's the appeal in that ?

There are many high end talenta that go undrafted, ita usually because theyre missed in scouting, drastically improve their play after their dradt year (late bloomer) or are expected to play in the KHL for many years. Last years Norris winner Mark Giordano was undrafted, Brent Burns was undrafted, Backstrom too.

As for the signing bonus vs annual pay, basically it allows a player to get a large sum of money up front on July 1st. It allows cobtracts to have staggered pays so that they get more money in say their prime and less later on (see Duncan Keith, or Mitch Marner). It makes a player easier to trade after their prime since their actual owed money is normally on the lower end (see Marian Hossa).

If I remember, he didn't really start becoming an elite player in the KHL until his draft +1 year, so he was sort of a late bloomer. There was also a question about his small frame, being only 5'10 160lbs or so in his draft year I think. Plus there was the Russian factor. Those guys don't always come over.

It also allows them to invest their money and get it working for them and there are certain tax benefits.
