Description
VAN Trade: This trade has been agreed upon by many Wings and Canucks fans.

NYI Trade: This trade has been agreed upon by some Islanders fans. The 3rd could be dropped to a lower pick if necessary.

CGY Trade: I saw this trade in a Flames ACGM. I think it could make since for the Wings as Bowey doesn't really fit into our long-term future since we're loaded with good prospects at RHD. Bennett would be a guy who could take over Glendening and/or Helm's spot on the Red Wings (Bottom 6/PK) as I'd guess that at least one of them will not be coming back for the 2021-22 season. Bennett could also see some increase in offensive production if given a larger role on the Red Wings. I wouldn't mind throwing in a late pick if we had to.

TOR Trade: Leafs fans seem to want a 2nd for Johnsson but the Red Wings 3rd round pick will very likely be a top-5 pick in the 3rd round. There could maybe be a condition where if Johnsson reaches a certain number of points, the Leafs would receive the latest of the Red Wings 2nd round picks (With the Canucks trade, we have DET, EDM, VAN).

Helm Trade: After acquiring Bennett, we don't really have enough room in our Bottom 6 to allow some younger guys get playing time. I chose to trade Helm but this could also be Filppula or Glendening. With retained salary, I'm guessing he could fetch somewhere around a 4th.

Another Idea?: Evgeny Svechnikov will now be on a 1-way contract which means he will have to pass through waivers if sent to the minors. He will definitely be given the chance to make the Red Wings at the beginning of the year but if he fails to solidify his spot in the lineup, he could be traded.

Free Agents:

Erik Gustafsson: I like the idea of a Gustafsson-Boychuk pairing as Gustafsson is an offensive-defenseman where Boychuk is more of a stay-at-home defenseman. Gustafsson could chose to sign in Detroit as he'd be guaranteed top minutes and PP time which could help him boost his stock for FA next year, Detroit could pay him more than most other teams, and Detroit could afford to retain some salary in a potential trade to a contender at the TDL. If necessary, Detroit could raise the offer to 5 mil.

TDL Bait:

Bernier (Only if Demko breaks out into the clear starting goalie)
Filppula
Glendening
Gustafsson
(Helm (If we choose to trade Glendening or Filppula at the beginning of the season instead))
Nemeth

In this scenario, Detroit takes on 12 million dollars in cap and adds a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and potentially their goalie of the future. They also add some forwards who could play a long-term role on the team in Johnsson and Bennett. Detroit would also be able to add more high-mid draft picks by making trades at the TDL.

I think taking Johnsson will be a bad move. Im not sure Gustafsson will sign in Detroit but if Krug leaves Boston Detroit is at the list.

It depends on what Johnsson costs. If the asking price goes up to a 2nd I think Detroit should be our but if we can get him for a 3rd I think he can have a breakout like Fabbri had last year.

Why do you think he’ll break out? He’s played with some quality line mates and decent ice time. By giving him more minutes probably just offsets his line mates (Matthews, Marner, etc). He’s a risk with his knee and probably tops at middle six winger.

Send Pickard back the other way and van accepts I think. Although the 2nd rounder seems like a lot. Maybe a 3rd instead?

Mostly because he’ll be playing top 6 minutes. It’s a good point that he’s played with some top linemates though.
