Description
Rangers and Leafs trade goalies. Andersen and the King of New York's contracts end at the same time so Andersen can be extended for less than the King's cap hit and the Rangers will have a strong goaltending tandem. Rangers also get a middle six right winger that is cost controlled and can generate 20 goals with middle six minutes. Also is a positive PK contributor and is a very fast skater. Shoot first mentality.

Leafs solidify their goaltending and can have a decent tandem that is cost controlled. Georgiev signs at a slightly higher cap hit percentage as Matt Murray but for one more year (4 years instead of 3) when he was extended by the Penguins. Cap space can then be used to shore up the defense. DeMelo at top six minutes should be effective and Tanev paired alongside Rielly should help Rielly play his game (pairing should be a better performing version of the Rielly - Hainsey pairing).

How would the Rangers even use Andersen, also Georgiev is an RFA so you wouldn't have to work out an extension before a trade. Lastly massive overpay

Umm Rangers if they move Georgiev, not looking to get another goalie back. They have 3 and you did nothing to help their situation but deal them more cap.

Lundqvist's effectiveness has diminished. The Rangers can keep three goalies up for another year and split the starts between Andersen and Shesterkin. They're in no hurry as they are still a rebuilding team.

The request for permission to negotiate the extension with Georgiev doesn't have to be a hard condition. I was thinking the same thing happened when the Leafs traded for Andersen but I can't remember if he was an RFA at the time of the extension.

Sure, it's an overpay but the Leafs have an abundance of right wingers and you have to give value to get value.
