Neither of those players holds any interest nor are they even better despite the fact that they will make more

They are on good contracts, fill needs the rangers have while taking from a strength.
In terms of Lindholm, he’s slightly better than Strome. He’s only had one really good year (same as strome) but his underlying numbers and more importantly face offs are better. Since he is on a good contract for a 2nd line center it’s a decent add (better than say RNH who is ufa after one year). Essentially it won’t take as much to get him.

ADA while great is still behind fox and Trouba— with nils coming in one more year it’s just not worth it to extend him long term. We need a competent lhd that can play big minutes. Enter hanifin who isn’t really a top line defender, but can eat a chunk of minutes while kandre develops.

I just like Necas and buch/chytil are commodities with the returns from all these moves.

I’m coming from a Calgary standpoint. Lindholm is a phenomenal 2-way player (10th in Selke voting last year, I don’t expect him to ever win but if he has a decent offensive year he should be around the 10-15 range consistently), very versatile in that he can play C or RW effectively anywhere in the top 6, and he’s signed for 4 more years under 5mil. Hanifin is a good, young 2LD also locked up under 5 mil for a few more years. Strome and ADA will both demand contracts over 5mil, and I think Lindholm is a much better all around player than Strome, and ADA’s defensive deficiencies don’t make up for him being better offensively than Hanifin (we have plenty of PP options, especially if we resign Gus, which should be cheap), especially when Hanifin will cost less. This deal just isn’t enticing for Calgary at all. We acquired these guys for Fox (you know how good he is), Hamilton (Norris threat), and Ferland (solid top 6 winger when he isn’t concussed) and we are overall pretty happy with the deal. That should tell you how valuable those guys (especially Lindholm) are.

Don't see the point of that move from the canes position, they would certainly decline. Chytil and Buchnevich arent bad players, but Necas certainly has the potential to be way better than either player in return. He had a very good season as a rookie playing very limited minutes.
