Next to Derek Grant, Roy could be the best value in the NHL.
The problem is we have only three NHL-qualified RD's on the roster and no one in the system even remotely likely to replace him next season if we trade him. Plus, he shows signs of becoming a second-pairing defenseman with a little more development. And we won't have to expose him in the expansion draft if we decide to go 4-4-1. (After Kopitar, Iafallo and Kempe, it's hard to designate TWO young forwards I'd hate to lose.)
In sum, he's a good quality guy who plays above his weight and whom we'd have to go out and replace if we traded him, so it's hard to construct a trade with teams that need RDs that Los Angeles would be likely to accept.
