Description
I'm curious if the Flames go in a completely different direction as a result of the economic uncertainty of the league as a result of COVID (no gate based revenue), the ownership group has the majority of their income/investments in an industry that's been decimated in recent years in addition to they are have made a massive investment being put toward a new arena. Does it make sense to embrace a rebuild, lower payroll, maximize on the trade value of some of our core that have proven they don't have what it takes to make it out of the first round (paying to the cap for mediocre results isn't sitting well with anyone) and it would allow them to develop younger players, restock their prospect pool and give themselves a chance to reopen their "competitive/contender window" at the same times as fans can safely return and the new arena is completed. Let me know where I am of and what adjustments would need to be made but conceptually I think this is the path the Flames should pursue IMHO

So the Sabres are losing one of the best prospects in hockey, a future top pairing RD, a 2021 first? This definitely won’t happen.

All for, a defenseman who struggles defensively and is one dimensional, a not good two-way centreman, AHL staple, decent top 6 d.....

Gaudreau to Philly just doesn't make sense. If the have to send all roster players to get him I don't see it happening it makes the teams depth worse

Why are you constantly under the impression that Hanifin is defensively inept? He is not, he is a strong skating 2-way defender. Monahan also has a good 2-way game IQ, his issue is like your Ryan Strome, lack of foot speed. That and the 3 other centers on his team specialize in being shut down centers (Lindholm included).

To clarify I am not arguing the value of the trade because Buffalo obviously declines.

It actually makes a lot of sense, they have a very high chance of being able to resign him, he drastically improves their power play and top 6, and he's on a very affordable contract for 2 years.
