Description
1st is top 10 protected and trade is made under the assumption that Danault has made it clear he wants to test free agency waters (i.e can't part of a sign and trade).

I know it's very unrealistic, but god I would love Danault on the Leafs. Incredible defensively (imo he should have been a Selke finalist this year) and can still produce at a solid rate (mainly at 5v5) while playing against top competition and starting the majority of his shifts in the Dzone. Gives the Leafs a plethora of options up front. I'm also a firm believer that the Leafs can't just bring in some magical unicorn Dman and fix all their problems, and while this won't either, I think it's a big step forward as playing D takes contributions from the forwards and they get an elite defensive C and can still afford a solid defensive Dman in Demelo through FA as well.

Johnsson's just on LTIR because I didn't want to be told what he is/isn't worth.

So yeah, this is more of just a "let me dream AGM". But if you still feel the need to tell me it won't ever happen, feel free.

what a pointless trade for the leafs that would be, a 2nd line C is literally the last thing the leafs would need and would be a waste of assets

Disagree. They get an elite 2 way C (can't really ever have enough of those) for $1.5m and it allows the to free up cap space by trading other guys from their forward group while still improving in that area and then attempt to use that cap space to address their other needs. Is it first on their list? No, definitely not. Is it pricey? Yes. But I think this roster is fantastic. As I said, this is myself dreaming; I really like the outcome here. If you don't, that's perfectly fine.

a 1st and 4th - not 2nd. But yes. It would change the way I would handle the draft; not one for drafting for position but if the guys that really like are gone by 15, perhaps trade down and look at Schneider or Barron.
