Description
Tarik El-Bashir just put out an article in the Athletic that's got the most in-depth look at what the Caps are up to this offseason that I've seen so far. Some key takeaways:

-Holtby, Gudas, and Kovy are gonna walk.

-The top priority seems to be re-signing Brenden Dillon, and other moves are gonna have to wait until that gets done.

-Siegenthaler will be re-signed, probably at around 2x1.25M, but Boyd might price himself out of DC thanks to having arbitration rights and wanting a bigger role than the Caps can give him. Not sure if that means the Caps look to trade him, or just take him to arbitration and walk away if the contract he gets is too high for them.

-Fehervary and Sprong are both likely to be in the lineup.

-TEB didn't say this outright, but re-signing Dillon and Siegs and pencilling Fehervary into the lineup all but guarantees Kempny will be moved IMO, as there's just no room left for him.

-Caps will be on the lookout for a middle six winger who could add some scoring. Sounds like they don't see it as an absolute need, but one can be added cheaply they might pounce. I guess that'd push Sprong out of the lineup?

-Samsonov's definitely the #1 (so please stop trying to trade us Andersen, Leafs fans), but they're not yet decided if they'll go with Vanecek as the backup or sign a vet.

-Caps won't have an internal cap.

With that in mind, this seems like the most likely lineup for next year. I'm assuming they don't find a value winger and spend the money on a vet backup instead. Kinda boring, and I wish they add a 2RD, but I think they'll count on Lavi being the main source of improvement.

Is Kempny the worst out of Dillon, Sieg, and Fehervary, or is he losing his spot because of the cap? As an outsider looking at the blue line - and not knowing the Caps well - it seems like they’re 1 injury to a top 4 guy from really need a guy like Kempny?

Kempny is good but they need to time for Siegs and Fehervary (2 top 4 guys now or very soon) so it makes sense to move him.

Kinda boring indeed, but realistic. Wishing they could also make a splash to sign a depth winger for scoring (maybe move Panik/Hags), but I realize that is unlikely. I also hope they look to sign a RHD, a cheap Rutta or maybe a Bogosian type
