Steve Y has sights set in Askarov, doesn't want to drop too far down to grab him and picks up an extra 1st and McLeod. Devils take Drysdale with the pick and go a little risky selecting J.J. Detroit isn't doing that trade and NJ will only move 1/2 of those picks for a young player with term/team control as Friedman reported yesterday. And you have $10M in cap space but play an AHLer with Drysdale.

How about improving the team more and trying to make the playoffs?

Neither DET nor NJD are contenders next year. Just keep the picks and develop your players. I dont see a reason why either side would want to do this.
