Description
This is purely for fun and I really dont expect Boston to re-tool at all. In fact, I think Boston still has a couple years of contention and will do whatever they can to make one last final push. Lets just pretend they start off slow next season and age begins to catch up to them. Halfway through the season, Boston is no where near a playoff spot so they decide it is finally time to re-tool/rebuild. This is me pretending this scenario happens and making moves for Boston's future. I left reasonings behind all my trades given I tried to make them as realistic as possible.

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (CBJ)
CBJ
  1. Kuraly, Sean
Additional Details:
I expect Columbus to be competitive again next year as a wildcard team. Kuraly is from Columbus and would be a perfect fit for Torts system in the bottom six. Kuraly can penalty kill, is relentless on the forecheck, and can chip in some offense especially in big games. Kuraly would be a huge addition to Columbus's bottom six and center depth.
2.
BOS
  1. Vesalainen, Kristian
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Krejci, David ($1,812,500 retained)
  2. 2021 7th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Winnipeg will obviously be looking to upgrade their defense this off-season but they also desperately need a 2nd line center. This move would give Winnipeg a playmaking 2nd line center and proven playoff performer who could play with any of Laine, Connor, or Ehlers. Boston receives a 2nd round pick and a streaky power forward prospect in Vesalainen who has solid middle six upside (possibly top-six). Boston also retains 25% of Krejci's cap hit to help Winnipeg fit Krejci into their cap structure.
3.
BOS
  1. Emilio Pettersen, Mathias
  2. Lucic, Milan
  3. 2021 1st round pick (CGY)
  4. 2021 2nd round pick (CGY)
  5. 2022 2nd round pick (CGY)
CGY
  1. Kase, Ondrej
  2. Rask, Tuukka
  3. Ritchie, Nick
Additional Details:
Calgary is a team I expect to make a huge push to go on a run next season. They only have a couple years left with Gaudreau, Giordano, and others so it makes sense for them to go all in. Calgary dumps Lucic's contract, their 2021 1st, 2021 and 2022 2nd round picks as well as center prospect Emilio Pettersen. Calgary could use an upgrade in net so Tuukka Rask makes perfect sense for them given his stellar and consistent career so far. Calgary was one of the teams in the running to land Kase last years deadline given they need a 2nd line RW so Kase adds scoring depth to their top six. Nick Ritchie is cheap and can replace Lucic's physicality. Boston gets a prospect and 3 picks while Calgary gets out of Lucic's contract and adds a proven Vezina level goaltender, a RW for their top six, and a cheap replacement for Lucic.
4.
BOS
  1. 2021 3rd round pick (COL)
COL
  1. Chara, Zdeno
Additional Details:
Big Z wants one last shot at a cup and given he is on such a cheap deal, Colorado gives up a 3rd to add much needed defensive depth and experience for a long playoff run in 20-21.
5.
BOS
  1. Eriksson, Loui
  2. 2021 1st round pick (VAN)
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (VAN)
VAN
  1. Lindholm, Pär
  2. 2021 5th round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Vancouver dumps Eriksson's contract while adding a cheap defensive workhorse who could compete for a spot in Vancouver's bottom six. The key part of this trade is Vancouver getting out of that disgusting contract and Boston gaining picks.

Getting past the absurdity. Boston is not a take on cap dump team/market.

Krejci not waiving for ‘Peg. Not sure Rask does for Calgary either.

None of this makes sense to me.

They have been to a Cup, Won the Pres Trophy and lost to the Team the decisively won the Cup in CF.

I don't understand the window closing thing. Marchand has at least three years left of elite play. Bergeron at least 2 baring injury. (nobody telling sid and geno their window is closing)

Chara hasn't been Norris Chara in about 7 years. Krejci has literally been the exact same player his entire career. He seems like he has a couple more, or at least his contract.

McAvoy, Pastrnak, Carlo, Coyle is a pretty decent "core" especially when Bergeron and Marchand are still a part of it and you Studnicka, Beecher, Lauko (I love this kid) Debrusk, Lauzon, Bjork and Kase that could all step into a core roll.

Plus the draft and FA and Trades.

How many guys constitute a Core for their window to be closing.

There is a potential center issue, but that can be said for many teams including the last two Cup Winners.

Apart from the "hometown boy" angle, there's no reason for Columbus to make this trade. We've already got like 9 guys who belong in our bottom 6, so we're not likely to devote any assets toward acquiring more of those players. Kuraly isn't a substantial upgrade over Nash/Jenner.

I actually enjoy these NHL 20 GM mode trades. They are every bit as realistic as an OEL deal. As a big market team, the Bs are always on the front burner of the hot stove. But what’s the biggest offseason move they’ve made under Donny? Backes? My guess is that the Bs will end up signing bottom of the roster guys for depth and try to squeeze one last run out of the core.
