They aren't trading a centre for yet another guy at a position they have an abundance of. They also don't have a suitable partner for Montour, someone to cover his defensive issues. Chabot can create his pairings offence and doesn't need a partner like Montour, forcing him to hold back and cover more. Montour hurts the Sens, and losing Tierney hurts the Sens. This trade is horrible for the Sens.

Maybe after Sanderson arrives, since he would be a perfect partner for Montour.
