Description
2 simple moves around the deadline.
1) Dealing Eller saves Wash a nice bit of cap space. Hajek and Howden are 2 nice low cost change of scenery depth players who can really round out the roster. Eller was drafted by John Davidson in St. Louis so there's a good history there. He fills that "veteran with who can take defensive zone faceoffs role" that the Rangers tend to need.
2) Strome helps bring some offense to a Dallas team that needs it in their middle 6. His positional flexibility is an asset as well. Oleksiak has a lot of history with Martin in Pittsburgh and with the emergence of Harley and the need to resign Heiskanen and Klingberg in the next 2 years, I don't think Dallas can afford Oleksiak's next contract.

I like how 'not very good' has switched to 'need a change of scenery' players. I believe every team that wanted Eller could beat that offer....

Agreed. I particularly enjoy how they would "round out the roster" by sitting in the press box.

Eller for Howden, Hajek

I don't think that the Caps do this because they are in win NOW mode (Ovechkin's window) and Eller has been an excellent 3C.

Yeah I think there's some presumption that McMichael can adequately step into that role this year. If that happens, Eller becomes instantly expendable.
