My Bennett Offer

Let me preface this by saying I'm high on this player and understand that I am in the minority when it comes to what I'd be willing to pay for him in a trade. I also don't think it is likely that he goes to the Leafs for a number of reasons, but I'm just fantasizing. Now to the trade (based on the Goodrow to Tampa deal):

To Toronto: Bennett, 2021 3rd (conditional)

To Calgary, 2021 1st (conditional), could add a minors/taxi squad level player if they'd like a body coming back (Petan, Engvall)

These are some parameters of the trade which make it more unlikely, but I'm not potentially giving up a 1st for Bennett without them:

- occurs at or near deadline. Reason being that with accrued cap space the Leafs have more wiggle room, as well as the fact that, as a Flames fan pointed out to me, CGY's owners aren't keen on retaining on contracts, this mitigates the amount of actual money they'd still be on the hook for
- Bennett agrees to an extension (handshake deal, not part of retention) beforehand which sees him take a pay cut. He's not worth what he's currently making and I'm not interested in him for his current price. I'm not trading for him without cost control as his agent is a real pain in the ass and I don't want to deal with him after Bennett potentially has a stellar playoffs which he has a knack for and tries to demand the sun and the moon.
- Picks have performance conditions. I don't have my heart set on what those are, but basically just insurance in case Bennett sh*ts the bed. If conditions aren't met, Leafs only surrender a 2nd.

Lines aren't important, just tried to make them resemble what they were using when they were fully healthy.
