Description
As a Flyers fan, this was neat to take a dive into the Pens situation. I know how Ron operates and he will try to fix the cap situation while acquiring draft capital. However, the Pens have some really bad contracts they have to get rid of first and will cost just to move. I do not see them as players for Dougie Hamilton or Taylor Hall. I think this is a team that will be subtle and try to contend, but not mortgage the future in doing so. This is just year 1 so some big moves, but nothing earth shattering and no real long-term commitments by them yet. Also, some classic Hextall signings for depth and "toughness". Let me know how bad I did.

I don't see a need for Letang anymore in TO. Their defence is very good with the additions of Brodie and Bogosian along with the progression of Holl.

Wasn't the rumour that Rutherford walked because of a vetoed Letang trade?

I don't think Brian Burke is coming on-board with the Pens to oversee the transition from Contender to rebuild/retool.

Ownership obviously wants veteran front office additions that will give that team another few kicks at the can.

Flipping their best dman doesn't really help that goal.

While I think Letang would be a nice addition, it's the subtraction of Kerfoot that hurts the Leafs too. So it's kinda of even trade at best on the ice value from the Leafs view, but they lose a first rounder too.

Fair enough. I am a fan of neither team. Just throwing out ideas to see what others think. Thanks for feedback.

If you're paying a 1st to dump Matheson, why give what will be a lottery draft pick instead of TOR 1st.. Just retain 1m/yr and it makes sense for teams to take it on
