If they want to win now, they should. Both players are better than the roster players going out. Forsberg gives them a power play threat from the left circle.

Both Zucker and Kapanen have struggled for stretches this year and their analytical profiles over the last two seasons aren't great. The Penguins overpaid for both players but that's a sunk cost. Zucker has been trending downwards since his peak in Minnesota and that contract could look bad fairly soon. Kapanen is a third line player who struggles with consistency.

Malkin has struggled this year and can likely no longer carry a line by himself. Forsberg fixes that problem and is the best player in the deal.
