S tier: Karlsson trade. Losing Karl hurt so much, but they got a King's ransom.

A tier: the Brassard for Zibanejad trade was horrendous, but Ottawa got a great return for him.

A tier: Pageau was a heart and soul guy, but he was having a career and if he was gonna get 5×5 there was no way he would fit in Ottawa long term. Greig looks like he could be a direct replacement for Pageau, and while trading the Niemela and Hirvonen picks for Kleven is a pretty bad look, Kleven looked really good as a freshman and at the World Juniors.

C tier: Dzingel trade. Was fantastic value at the time, but they really ruined it. Turned the two 2nds into Stepan who is done for the Season, and Matt Murray who unfortunately is very healthy.

D tier: the Duchene trade looked great at the time, but it's not looking nearly as good. Lassi is looking more like a Bottom pair than a top 4 guy, and I don't think either prospect has much of a future in Ottawa. Davidsson has barely played hockey the last couple of years, and while I think Abramov will be an NHL player, I don't think it will be with Ottawa.

Z tier: I like Sokolov, and I really think Brannstrom will be a really good player, but they didn't get even remotely close to good Value for Stone. Trading a player of his level when he should have been the next captain is completely inexcusable, and not getting good value makes it way worse.

hoffman trade was brutal as well, if they were gong to rebuild it would've been nice to get a good return for him instead of what we got. Sucks his wife completely tanked his value and we got pennies on the dollar

Yeah, but at the end of the day they missed out on a 2nd round pick.

Karlsson trade: I hated it at the time, however in hindsight it looks fantastic, mainly due to the 1st being top 3 lol. We potentially got our long term 1-2 punch up the middle in Stuetzle and Norris, or at the very least a great 2C and an elite top line LW (no doubt those two will achieve at least that level seeing how they’ve played to date as rookies). Kinda sad Balcers got claimed before he made an impact at the NHL level but he was a serviceable AHLer while he was here. I’m a fan of DeMelo and he was a good partner for Chabot so I’m kinda sad he got traded on, but he was also good while he was here, and Merilainen has a lot of potential. I don’t think he’s played for the big club yet though? I’d like to see him take that step, clearly he’s dominant in U20. Tierney’s been a very reliable guy for us, uncomplainingly taking difficult matchups to shelter the kids and playing all situations. He’d be a good 3C to keep around, or he’ll get dealt at next year’s deadline for even more assets. The 2019 2nd we used to trade up and nab Sogaard who I’m super high on, I do love a 6’7” goalie. Obviously the 2021 2nd should be a pretty decent pick as well (top 40?). Overall a fantastic haul, two top six forwards that are a large part of the future, a reliable middle six guy making the rebuild easier and who could be a good long term complementary piece, two high potential goalie prospects, and another top 40 pick is excellent.

Dzingel trade: it was excellent value at the time but it looks bad in hindsight. I still have faith that Murray could be fine, he’s shown flashes of his old self, hopefully he develops some consistency when we get a half decent D corps in front of him. The 2nd used to get Stepan was ridiculous at the time and even worse now. Duke for the time we had him makes this an auto-win in terms of value, but I can’t help feeling like we squandered the long term potential here.

                                  Hoffman trade always sucked

Giving up Zibby for Brassard was horrendous but we got JBD out of it and he’s looking like Chabot’s long term partner which is excellent, plus Tychonick and I believe the other pick used to jump up and get Sogaard. Great haul.

Brannstrom is great and I like Sokolov as well but I still feel like we were at least a 1st short of fair value for Stone. He’s a top 5 RW, probably top 3 in the league and arguably the most complete player. Brannstrom+Sokolov is not enough compensation.

Duchene trade looked decent at the time but obviously it woulda been better to get the second 1st. Thomson and Abramov are fringe prospects at this point so it looks kinda meh. At least we aren’t stuck paying him 8x8.

I miss Pageau but it was a great haul for him. Greig looks like a direct replacement long term and even though the Hirvonen+Niemela for Kleven trade looks terrible (especially after the WJC), at least Kleven is a decent prospect that adds some more value to this trade.

I hate you guys after the Karlsson trade,
stealing our future 2C our strong 3C top line future LW in stuz, demelo who I liked and a bunch of other pics for a guy who is washed up and has destroyed our culture and salary cap for the next 6 years.
