Description

Anders Lee is out indefinitely for the Islanders with what appears to be a knee injury. The Isles are potential Cup contenders this year and need to add a veteran center with size and salary cap relief. I'm looking for a way to leverage the Blackhawks LTIR cap space into an elite prospect and a 1st round draft pick. Taking Ladd's BAD contract for 2+ seasons for Wahlstrom on an ELC and a 1st round pick in 2022 when the Isles have 2 2nd round picks is my proposal. Ladd's contract could be absorbed by Smith and Saad coming off the books next season combined with de Haan probably being taken by Seattle in the expansion draft and Janmark and Soderberg not coming back. Ladd's deal would cause some problems for resigning Hawks prospects in 2022 though and that's why the deal is Wahlstrom and a 1st round draft pick but I suspect Strome is traded at the in the offseason or at 2022 deadline if Toews comes back,

Wahlstrom has 7 pts in his last 10 games and has singlehandedly improved the isles powerplay. He’s pretty much untouchable.

They don’t need to add a veteran center lol this trade makes the isles worse

It all depends on if you think you're a cup contender. Can you use that cap for the final piece? $5.5M in dead cap is rough. TOR spent a 1st on 1 year $6M. 2 years $5.5M. Entirely possible Wahlstrom is untouchable. He's a heck of a player. But the 1st and a lesser prospect (still good prospect just not untouchable) is likely the right price.

Throwing away first rounders and thinning out a already thin prospect pool, just to rid ourselves of a very bad contract isn't worth it at all. What you offered us back isn't going to get us any closer to the cup and will take up most of Ladds cap space anyways.
