I wish offer sheets were made more often but they are simply not worth the risk. Not only is there a risk of losing a ton of picks but you still have to sign the player to a big price tag in the first place, then there's ongoing threat that a team will offer sheet one of your players just to piss you off. Not to mention that the team can match your offer, keeping that player but now you'll have an easy target for offer sheets going forward because you've pissed off another GM. Plus good GM relationships are important. Burn too many bridges and you'll have no one to trade with.

Anyways I think Chicago can match this offer and any higher and your probably over paying for Panarin. Its a tricky slope.

You have the compensation picks wrong for the Panarin offer sheet. If an offer sheet is greater than 5 years, the AAV is calculated using 5 instead of the contract length. For a 7x7 deal, the calculated value would be $49,000,000/5 years or $9,800,000/year. That would mean 4 first round picks going to Chicago instead of a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

If you took a year off and made it 6 year deal at the same 7 million dollar/year, the calculated value would be $8,400,000 which is two 1st rounders, one 2nd, and one 3rd.

Silliness: As futurehofer indicates in draft picks. And Plekanec isn't claimed by the Vegans just so the Canadians have cap space.

I wonder if it would be worth it for a team? The kid can score...but I wonder if Chicago wants a team to offer sheet him so they don't have to negotiate salary. If they match, it decimates them, so I would be expecting one coming from rival clubs.
