I'm sure Eric Staal will retire this year. He can't keep up in the NHL anymore.

Yamamoto where?

Ignoring that a lot of these are one-year deals, where does the money come from in order to extend Bear, McLeod, Nurse, and Puljujarvi while being able to afford two NHL-calibre goaltenders?

Laine isn't an offer-sheet target (really isn't one for Edmonton besides maybe Makar or Carlo).

Way too much for Coleman (literally twice what he should make in both AAV and term) and resigning Barrie is a mistake in the works. If the rumoured Larsson extension is four years long, I'd hope its about $1.5M lower than what you have here.

Comeau, Neal, Russell, and Turris really aren't NHL calibre players anymore and I'd like to see other options as opposed to them. I think Tampa might take a flyer on Stalock because of his low cap hit but as far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't trust him to start an NHL game. It'll have been over a calendar year since he last played and he has heart issues.

Columbus will give Laine his 1 year $7,500,000 qualifying offer. So Laine isn't a OS candidate.

So you're assuming Liane loves being benched and thrown on the fourth line and is begging to resign with a team that can't stand him? Maybe. I doubt it but maybe. They can give Laine a qualifying offer all they want, if he doesn't sign it he can entertain any offer sheet he wants to. I'm pretty sure he would be interested in being McDavid's line mate. That being said I'm not an Oilers fan and it was all in fun. Laine is nuts if he stays there, they hate him and how he plays and want to turn him into something he will never be.

As for one year deals, of course most of them are one-year deals. You see team after team after team sign 7-8 year deals and then go, Oh damn, we have a ton of contracts that totally screwed us and have negative trade value, and we can't resign half our roster. You need to have a lot of one year deals so you have flexibility.
As for Neal he's a great candidate to have someone work with him and turn him into the resident jerk. You're paying him unless you want to buy him out and pay him for way longer. Why not work with him and use him in a position where you get some value out of him. Development staff doesn't cost cap space.
