Description
Return of some familiar faces from this season plus Patrick Sharp. Scott Darling leaves via free agency. Maxim Shalunov comes over from the KHL. This assumes a $2m increase in the cap and all the overage bonuses from 2016-17 are made. Bonuses are likely to be a little lower, cap increase might also be lower. Campbell and Sharp will have to accept less next year with some bonuses for games played if they want to finish their careers with the Blackhawks and keep the core (minus Kruger) intact - which is their best chance at another Stanley Cup.

That's quite an assumption that Campbell and Sharp will accept so little. Unless the Hawks make it to at least the Conference Finals minimum, the glow of the the Hawks "dynasty" continuing will be gone,

The Sharp deal is a real stretch. Campbell will make the decision to either retire or take very little money from the Hawks next season. The question is what is too little to continue to play?

I don't disagree that the Campbell and Sharp deals are a stretch for $1m. Like Campbell's current deal, any deal they sign would include an easily attainable bonus to delay the cap hit a year. It's likely that the 2016-17 bonuses are less than the max hit that I entered. Anything leftover can go towards signing some veterans who want a chance at the Cup with the Blackhawks. I also don't necessarily think it's Mac Carruth that comes to back up Crawford. I do think it'll be another goalie that'll sign for two years at the league minimum like Darling initially did.

Campbell has been very vocal about how if he plays anymore, he doesn't want to leave Chicago (it was more the city that he wanted to live in again than the team too).

While $1m is low, I don't know if a team is going to give a 35/36 year old Sharp who now has concussion history too much, but who knows.

I wouldn't resign Campbell. Cap will not get to 75. probs 74-74.5.
