Description

I'm trying to do a proper, full expansion draft, and would like some input on these teams if y'all don't mind. These were some teams I had questions about. I'm not gonna ask for every team because I think I have a fairly good idea for most, and often if I'm struggling to make a decision for the 7th forward or whatever it doesn't matter anyway because it's likely the 4th D or 2nd G gets taken regardless, but if you're here and want to provide another protection list for your fave team feel free of course, I'm always down to learn more about other teams.

Is this gonna be Minnesota's protection list? I would assume they value Dumba over any other individual forward they would want to protect and could lose, but it's tough leaving guys like Greenway, Foligno unprotected (or JEE if I'm mistaken and one of these guys would be protected over him). If the Wild can't swing a Dumba trade prior to the expansion draft, would they be a team willing to give up assets to protect Greenway and Foligno? It'll be a tough choice for Seattle regardless, but the Wild are poised to lose a good player without a deal in place (either Talbot or Greenway would be my guess given this as the list).

I'm assuming Nashville goes with the 4/4/1 route again, is this accurate? If so, are Jarnkrok and Kunin the two extra forwards that get protected (Forsberg and Arvidsson are no-brainers to me)? I feel like the only other guy I'd consider using a slot on is Trenin. Is there any way Duchene or Johansen might get protected? I feel like those would be contracts the Preds would like out of so they'll both be exposed, and honestly Seattle might take a chance on one of them if they can't get enough quality centres elsewhere.

These are the guys I know are getting protected but I'm really not sure about the rest lol. I would assume Zucker/McCann/Dumoulin/Pettersson, is that accurate? Did Matheson improve enough to be worth protecting? Would Tanev, Blueger, or Carter edge out Zucker or McCann?

Who's the 7th forward they're gonna protect? I would assume one of Blais, Sundqvist, or Sanford, but I'm not sure who is the current best of that bunch. The real question is though, any shot the 2 unprotected guys gets taken over Dunn?

I'm assuming only one of these forwards and one of these defensemen get kept. Which ones? I'd personally be partial to Appleton and DeMelo but idk, teams like big guys and Stanley/Lowry are massive, plus I know Lowry's useful on the PK. I'd assume Seattle probably goes with the unprotected forward here regardless.

Even while injured, Sundqvist will be protected. And while I hope they would expose Krug and protect Dunn, I can;t say that is what will happen.

And I'm pretty sure the Wild would protect Greenway before Zuccs.

gonna have to think the Jets will try to strike a deal again, the organizations very loyal to their players and the piece we could stand to lose wouldn't be very expendable

You're spot on for the Wild. It'll likely come down to either Greenway or Talbot. However, our Athletic beat-writer Michael Russo has been chattering for the last week that Seattle might have some interest in Carson Soucy. Why they would take him over either Greenway or Talbot I've no clue, but it's there irregardless of that fact.

The thing is though, we might be possible candidates to make a side deal with Seattle too. Guerin is on record that would make a deal if it came to that if it meant keeping someone like Foligno, so who knows. It's an enigma, even to ourselves. 🤷‍♂️

As a fan of the Blues, is there any upside to Blais or Sanford that might entice Seattle to take one of them, or is taking Dunn pretty much a no-brainer? I'd assume the latter tbh but I do hear a lot of hype around Blais (to be fair though, most of that comes from the fantasy community who love his hits production lol)

Who would they want to protect? I would assume this means the Jets would try to protect both Lowry and Appleton, sacrificing a pick or prospect to get Seattle to claim whichever one of DeMelo/Stanley gets left available instead of the forward they have to leave available, is that right? Which one of DeMelo/Stanley is valued higher rn btw?
