I don't know why these particular posts ALWAYS include a lack of vision of both destination teams' needs; AND, the responses rarely highlight that missing element.
That said, the author tried to address this, but, didn't: secondary scoring depth and fits to their current styles weren't addressed in this proposal.
First things first:
Chytil, Kakko and Miller stay, as large parts of the core of the Rangers. McDavid is going to want Kakko, to be his new Draisitil. Chytil is the answer to keeping a young top six that can contend. Miller within a season will be an even better overall defender, while adding more offense to his game. This leaves Strome and Lundkvist as two key pieces to this deal.
Let's add two more: Buchnevich and Kravtsov.
Purpose: Edmonton needs secondary scoring. A second line of Buchnevich-Strome-Kravtsov, behind a likely top line of Nugent-Hopkins-Draisitil-Puljujarvi, begins the process of developing a top six that skates, shoots and defends effectively.
The Rangers acquiring McDavid changes the franchises offensive skill set, overall. The likeliest line following such a move becomes Panarin-McDavid-Kakko, followed by LaFreniere-Chytil-Zibanejad, depending on whom the new Rangers' coach is.
The point is, while one team is acquiring a generational superstar, both teams still need to see all or most of their needs be met, to get their respective teams on track.
