Zegras and Drysdale are reportedly untouchable. No point trading either one of them right now for a player that doesn't immediately catapult them into a playoff contender.
In my humble opinion, our six best assets are: Gibson, Zegras, Drysdale, our 2021 first, our 2022 first, and Comtois. All of them are essential to our five-year plan, and should be untouchable. Other than them, what do we have that could possibly buy Eichel?!?!?
Los Angeles has the surplus assets, but not really the need. (That's why Rob Blake keeps talking about obtaining an equivalently valuable LD.) Anaheim has the need, but not the surplus assets. I don't see SoCal as a reasonable destination for Jack Eichel. Plus, as I've said many times before, I think it would be malpractice for any GM to make a franchise-altering trade like one for Eichel before finding out how he plays in actual NHL games, i.e., before at least half the season has been played. But maybe I'm overplaying the seriousness of his season-ending injury.
