chicago gets a young dman, a pick and a more buyout friendly contract in neal. oilers get needed forward depth and a veteran dman. chicago buysout neal at the window and that's 6.48mil in cap free'd up for chicago to work with when hunting for a bigtime dman and have a seth jones bargaining chip in his brother caleb.
if oilers do a move for keith including koskinen then with neal oilers can do the following:
burry neal this year then next yr do the following:
Edmonton: retain 2mil of neal + mid round pick (last yr of contract)
NJ has alot of space and gets a couplepicks for their troubles, edmonton gets 3.175mil in savings and seattle gets a 2mil, veteran bottom 6 guy that can be a leader in Seattle plus a pick. Jersey: gets 2 later roundpicks to retain 1.175mil of neal
Seattle gets neal at $2mil for 1year and a later round pick
Expansion List (7/3/1): F--> Mcdavid, Drai, Nuge, Poolparty, Strome, Archy, benson D --> nurse, bear, larsson G --> skinner
Lose kassian in expansion draft. THIS IS THE BIGGEST KEY TO THE OILERS OFFSEASON, THEY NEED TO DO WHATEVER THEY CAN TO MOVE KASSIAN AS HIS EXTRA 3.2MIL IN SPACE IS MASSIVE IN ALLOWING THE KOSKINEN AND NEAL DOMINOS TO FALL AND ACTUALLY MAKE A SERIOUS IMPACT
With the 19th pick (if not traded), select Cossa.
in Fa: I got some solid veterans in the form of nosek, getzlef, bogosian that have playoff experience and can shuffle in and out of the lineup to provide strong depth on the bottom half of the lineup whilst still being productive 5v5 when needed. I chose the big winger FA add to be goodrow as he is a fast and physical guy that has scored 20 goals in 2 of his 3 yr contact with NJD. He can be played upanddown the lineup and solidify a guy that can be aphysical presence playing with younger guys while still being able to keep-up.
NOTE *didnt add coleman cause all signs point to him going to his hometown of dallas*
really like this lineup because it majorly improves forward depth. adds experienced guys with some internal young solutions, takes care of the goalie situation, still have cap room to adust pieces when needed, and the lineup is very versatile with alot of guys having the ability to move up and down the lineup. Plus depth additions allow for younger guys to ease into their NHL roles. the defense could use some work but with broberg coming on the left side and a few contracts being gone, the oilers can make moves without destroying their space or the core built from this offseason. If keith isnt working, then find a rental to play the 2nd pair and move keith down the 7th spot.the significant cap space here will provide a safety net if the keith gamble goes sideways. should it go bad,itd be time to see if a last yr buyout or heavy retain trade is possible.
Chicago needs the cap space a neal buyout and moving other money out gives them. neal buyout and strome gone gives the 6.84mil in space which is huge. jones and a 2nd for strome is more than fair given that neal's contract most definitely provides much more value than keith could ever provide them and on top of that chicago gets a young 4/5 dman with upside that can be a major bargaining chip for trying to snag and sign seth. in addition chicago would not need to worry about signing strome and have another yr of caleb still at 850k. given the big dmen will be in bidding wars, chicago is going to need all the cap leverage it can muster if they want to aquire any of them
teams have paid much more for muchless cap relief and given this is significant relief during a flat cap. strome is fair compensation (he is a middle 6 forward at 24)

However, we don't need Cap relief. Buying out Neal this year is not good for us as it will mean 4 years of carrying some form of hit. Jones as a 4/5 prospect is no better than what we already have and Jones is likely going to be heading to Philly. As for Strome, his value is at an all time low I acknowledge that but he could fetch a far greater return elsewhere if a move is to be made.
