Description
I used to be a big Fleury defender when he was still on the team. I knew he struggled every playoffs but I just didn't know who they could go after as a replacement. The guy was a 1st overall pick, I always had hope he would get better eventually but unfortunately it never happened. Looking back, I realized how overrated he was, outside of a strong 2007/08 Stanley Cup run, he was carried by the skater group every season. The Penguins from 2009-2014 had a 54% xGF share yet had the worst GSAx in the league every year. Even with average goaltending, they would've won the cup at least once during that period.

Do you guys think the team I built would have won a cup or two?

Put Lundqvist or Price on any of those years and I guarantee that you’d have more cups. Fleury outside of different moments was absolutely carried by the Penguins. This dude has great moments but is nowhere near as good or dominant as people make him seem to be.

Completely agree, I can’t believe people rank him as a first ballot HOF. Out of his 3 cups, only 2017 was a legitimate one (even there he didn’t play the full tournament). He had more choke jobs than successes.

My biggest issue was they definitely could’ve made it further a few more years if he hadn’t choked as bad as he did. Lucky for him they had a great team and won 3 times. If he were on the Habs or Rangers he would’ve never carried a team anywhere close to a finals appearance.

Absolutely. Put him on another team he wouldn’t win as much.
