Vegas isn't claiming 6m Plekenac. 6m gets you a a good UFA. Vegas aren't picking 30 overpaid players just to give cap space to the current NHL teams.

You would have to give Vegas something of value to convince them to take on Plekanac

Who exactly are you referring to? Radulov? Oshie? Shattenkirk? You actually think any of those guys is signing in LV? Or do you mean they are going to overpay a guy like Patrick Berglund 6M? Is that a better option then getting Plekanec for one more year at 6M and then possibly signing him to a more agreeable contract afterwards or trading him at next years TDL for a pick?

I know everyone likes to make it out like Plekanec is the worst player in the world but good centre depth will be hard to get from the expansion draft and in free agency, unless you overpay a guy like Hanzal 6m for 6 years?

Who exactly are their other options? Emelin? Mitchell? Hudon? Habs aren't going to let Beaulieu go for nothing, they'll tarde him before that. Byron will be protected. So their options aren't as great as you think and why would LV throw away a selection of a player on a no name AHL'er that probably will never make the NHL since MTL won't have any good young players available to be picked anyway when they can use 6M for one more year on a guy who is a Czech national captain with leadership for a young team, ~17 min a night, 50%+ face off centerman capable of scoring some points?

Worst idea ever! They'd rather be choked out by Brock Lesner then accept that! It would completely destroy their organization..........They could put that 6M to good use and sign a bunch of 3-4th line putz to 1-2M contracts.....Or better yet overpay a player not worth 5-6M instead and be stuck with him for 3-4 years.......

Everybody with me now: Plekanec is NOT the same as David Clarkson, Matt Moulson or Dustin Brown. He's playing top line centre minutes on one of the better teams in the league. This is the first year his stats have taken a decently big decline but there's a reason he still gets 17 mins a night. Is he worth 6M? No he isn't. He is still a good player? Absolutely!!
