Why do you give a compensation (if we can consider it a compensation) to Seattle if they're already taking the best player available?

Bruins aren’t paying Seattle to take Clifton.
Why not just sign rask to a one year deal, and then the following year you can give him performance bonuses.
I’m cool with that blues deal.
NOT cool with signing carlo to two years, walking him directly to UFA without buying out any UFA years. That kind of asset management is so rare in the NHL it isn’t even worth considering.
