Trades

WSH
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
Caps are going to want a 1/2C back for Kuznetsov if they trade him. Trading him for futures doesn't make much sense if you're still trying to contend in the twilight of the Ovi/Backstrom era.

Monahan could use a change of scenery, and he'd be a good option for the Caps here.
CGY
  1. Kuznetsov, Evgeny
Additional Details:
Kuznetsov can still produce, and can slot into Calgary's top six. If the Flames can get an extension with Gaudreau solidified, they're not going to be rebuilding.

    1. Schultz, Justin
    Additional Details:
Seattle takes Schultz in the expansion draft. Right handed puck moving defensemen are a commodity in today's NHL, so the Kraken can either use him, or trade him. Vegas selected 13 defensemen in their expansion draft.

Sean Monahan is good fit for Washington and the game they play. However just got a hunch Calgary keeps him.

Yeah, I could see that too. I think the main thing is, there's a lot of trades on here where the Caps take futures for Kuzy, and that just doesn't make sense for where the Caps are organizationally. I think it's really likely that the Caps hang on to Kuznetsov and hope that he straightens up his off ice stuff.

Monahan underlying numbers are terrible. I'd rather keep Kuzy unless they feel they absolutley have to move him and Monahan is their best offer.

Maybe, but let's just take the names off the players and look at pure production over the last three seasons:

    Player A:

    180 GP, 49 G, 104 A, 153 P (0.85 PPG pace)

    Player B:

    198 GP, 66 G, 92 A, 158 P (.797 PPG pace)

These two players are a lot closer in production than a lot of people might think.
