Then by that logic, why would Washington trade for him and let him walk for nothing? Trading Reilly and replacing him with Biega looks like the the Leafs are sellers before the season even starts.

please explain how the leafs were the only team that took a step back when

buffalo lost reinhart, eichel, risto, and ullmark
montreal lost danault, weber, tatar (laterally replaced by hoffman i guess) and price will likely miss time
tampa's bottom 6 imploded and they lost 4/6 guys that made up their depth

Washington already has a better version of Rielky, they dont need him. They also are already at the cap ceiling and cant afford him anyways

Dont forget Boston just capped themselves out with 3rd pair dmen and no 2nd line center.
On the flip side though Florida looks to have massively improved

The last thing we need right now is to trade our top LHD prospect and our 2022 first round pick for one year of Reilly when we don’t have room for him on the depth chart or in the financial department.
