Description
Top line:
Tatar- Great 5v5 possession winger to give McDavid more sustained attacks
McDavid- Yup. Let's see what he does with a real line
Hyman- Intense forechecker and will go to the dirty areas for McDavid

2nd line:
Foegele- Big fast Forechecker lacks a bit of finish but is better 5v5 performer then RNH
Draisaitl- Real 1-2 punch after McDavid gets a true line allows Drai line easier match ups
Yamamoto- Sophmore slump was bad if he doesn't regain some of his finish JP could steal this spot.

3rd line:
Nuge- Had rough year 5v5 sliding him down to 3rd line allows easier match ups for him while still being key player on special teams.
McLeod- Although not producing in short stint last year showed a lot of promise as young #3C
JP- Showed he was a NHL player last year but had a few Hockey IQ lapses. Sliding him down to 3rd line is spreading the wealth.

4th line-
Archibald- Feisty for a small guy aggressive forecheck and hits hopefully get line mate Kassian on the same page.
Ryan- Great defensive and faceoff RH center allows the energy line to get possession and go to work.
Kassian- Needs a bounce back season or Benson/Marody can steal his spot when his fists aren't needed.

Team will be very reliant on its forward group to maintain possession making the games easier for their questionable defensive group.

I think Ryan should be 3C for a while. McLeod can learn from him a lot and carry that to the next season where he will earn the 3C spot.

EDM will continue to fail until they run the three headed monster lines like this. I've no idea why Mc"Jesus" can't figure out how to play without Drysaddle and other top players on his line. He handcuffs his team not only by his cap hit, but by crippling their depth. They should've been running 3 separate lines for the last few years

Whichever Ryan plays #3C doesn't change that this would be the best top 9 for the Oilers in recent memory

They’ve had AHL players playing on second line last couple years. Nuge couldn’t figure out how to play with mcdavid and there was literally nobody else.

I totally agree with you. Even in the past when we haven't had the depth at the forward position, you still need to spread the skill out a bit.
I thought the Oilers could have tried Turris on either McDavids or draisaitls wing last year. He's a righty that still has a very good shot and has a way better one-timer than nuge. For some reason they wanted him to be a shutdown 3rd line center, which he's never been good at. I still think Turris has more offense in him than we've seen.
Nuge and puljujarvi play good together and either McLeod or Ryan would be fine with them.
There is some skill, size and hustle on every line which will lead to better depth scoring.

I also think they need to consider going to 2 pp units as well (Giving the 2nd unit the last 20 seconds doesn't count). They have 4 dmen who can play pp now. It should cut down on the short handed chances against, and keeps more people involved in the scoring.
