Trades
1.
NSH
  1. Fensore, Domenick [Reserve List]
  2. Suzuki, Ryan
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (CHI)
CAR
  1. Forsberg, Filip
Additional Details:
Contract extension pre-negotiated and agreed upon prior to trade
2.
NSH
  1. Skinner, Jeff ($1,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Buffalo gets someone that can hold down the fort as 1C post Eichel trade and move the skinner contract. 1M retention is to even out cap hit.
BUF
  1. Duchene, Matt
Additional Details:
Nashville isn't going to use Duchene as a C so might as well trade him for a winger. I think Skinner could bounce back under the right circumstances.
3.
NSH
CAR
  1. Grimaldi, Rocco
Additional Details:
Sent anywhere for a box of chocolates. Didn't want to include a separate team and draw their fans in thinking it was a legit trade.

With a pre-negotiated contract extension, I would expect a better return than that for Forsberg. I like Suzuki, but there should be more quality there.

And as far as Skinner, I think that he could bounce back (to an extent) now that he doesn't have Kruger stifling his offensive potential, but I still wouldn't trade for him. He's owed more $$ and has more term than Duchene -- even with the $1m retention, I'd pass.

I dont really care what Buffalo does with Skinner, but I do think it would be a smart move to take some one like Duchene and use him at 1C, but idk what his attitude will be like. He seems to be a franchise killer, and Buffalo is already flat lining, interesting though

It's funny cause I suggested a trade between MTL & NSH which had MTL paying double for Forsberg and I had a guy tell me I was out to lunch and that Forsberg was worth more still.

100% agree with the Skinner/Duchene swap, it does nothing for Buffalo but eat their cap space for longer for another risk coming back, doesn't make sense.

All being said, neither trade happens as they just don't make sense.

Yeah Forsberg probably does get more with an extension. The extras would probably be a higher pick or another prospect but neither would impact this season so i didn't want to get too wrapped up into it.

Skinner v. Duchene. Skinner has had a pretty positive attitude given all that was thrown his way by Krueger. With trading Forsberg, it would make sense to bring in a goal scorer to help replace his production while the youth get experience. Yes, Skinner's extra year on contract is a detractor but i think it would make sense for both teams under these circumstances. Buffalo gets to trade Eichel and still have a top line C placeholder for no real cost and Nashville turns someone who seemingly has a more divisive attitude into someone with a more positive attitude with a good history of goal scoring. I think Skinner would fit more into Nashville's culture shift they're going for than Duchene.

With everything Poile has tried to do this summer -- getting younger and cheaper -- I don't see how it fits with that goal. Skinner is owed $52m as opposed to Duchene's $38m. Does Poile really want to add $14m in salary owed, considering the lack of revenue due to COVID seasons? I don't really disagree with a lot of the points you've made, but I just think $$ talks in this scenario.
